Default Finca as permanent address?

As a Brit with no real ties to UK, can I just turn up in Spain, buy a cheap finca (10,000 euro max), and live on it as my official permanent address?
I assume low land tax, depending on value / utilities. Any data, please?

you could, assuming the finca is legal and the land is designated for habitation, and the seller has the legal right to sell it. Many of these places are family places, and could well be part owned by many people, but you would need to have that checked out very carefully by a solicitor.

We have a finca , but our post goes to a po box in the post office in the village ,

We do have a legal house on our land .

Are you planing to buy a finca with a house or just land , 10,000 Seems quite a low amount to get any thing decent ( in our area any way )

Cheers Tony

tony, just planning ahead just in case UK gets too right wing and unaffordable.
I can exist in a bedsit if necessary. Just need to be within 20 miles of civilisation.

Just make sure that any finca has a building of some sort on it and that you have basic access to some water and some power - may be hard to get these added later.

Good advice.

Also if there are any old buildings there, never totally demolish them, no matter how bad they may be, as it would very likely jeopardise permission for a rebuild.

Also note that if the building no longer has a roof, it will be classed as a ruin and that will rule out any legal reform.

This may vary from region to region, but it's worth checking it out.

Frankly, any plot with a building on it that could be reformed and where water and power is even slightly likely will cost a lot more than 10k.

Does that mean you actually won't be living there and just need a place on paper?

I may actually live in a finca, regardless of rundown buildings. To access UK services, us Brits now need to be in UK officially for 3 months or more.
So may prefer to survive in spain.

An official address is important if need to use a valid driving licence, for example.

As mentioned by others, you need to check everything carefully and in reality you won't get much for 10K. Just thought you wanted a postal address in Spain, so you really want to live in a rundown building? The tax system in Spain can be a nightmare and the government is trying to make money wherever they can these days. You want to access UK services, so why bother moving to Spain?

Am currently living & working in a hot country outside Europe. If I returned to UK, I may not easily get a council place, cannot access UK services for 3 months, so was wondering whether a finca was an option - warm weather, part time work, cheap living.

Personally, I think you need to give this a LOT more thought first!

Finding part time work might be impossible, living is not as cheap as you might think (about the same as in UK [ish]), and a farm with land (finca) for 10k (inc. taxes) might not be so easy either.
