Ferbruary in Southern Spain

We are thinking of spending four weeks in February/March next year in Southern Spain. Looking for somewhere with two beds that we can take our two small dogs -one Yorkie cross and one King Charles cross. Both are fully housetrained and we are quite happy to pay a pet deposit.
Looking for somewhere sunny and reasonably warm (given that it is Europe in late winter early spring) with beach and restaurants.
Any ideas on locations and rental sites welcomed.
Many thanks

Hi,

There are a lot of rental properties on Kyero.com. I'm looking for the same thing but for 6 months over the winter and quite a few mention that pets are allowed.

Clare thank you. I am looking now.
I am also hoping someone can give me steer as to location, as Southern Spain is unknown to me.

Can't much help you there. We are going over in couple of weeks to look around the regions and scout out the different towns and villages. There seems to be a lot to choose from. We are looking primarily for somewhere with a private garden because we also have a dog and this seems to rule out places like Marbella (unless you've got megabucks). We are looking at Nerja, Torrox & Mijas areas mostly -but that's just from internet ideas.

Hi, I live in Mijas costa and love it here, especially the winter months. February is generally dry but one of the coldest months however can still be warm enough to sit at an outdoor table in the sun wearing at shirt or light jacket during the day. At night the temperature drops and most people venture indoors. March can be quite rainy down here but you sometimes see he temperature starting to creep up in March.

The tourists are thin on the ground at this time of year but you will still find lots people out and about during the day enjoying a walk along the promenade, evenings are quiet and some restaurants close for a few months at this time of year.

Property is definitely cheaper in Torrox and also Nerja to rent or buy. You can pick up some great winter rentals in February, you would have to check with the agent as to whether they would accept pets. check 'Kyero' for rentals across the whole province of malaga for an idea on price and availability.

Mijas costa is slightly more expensive but nothing like marbella prices. The new boardwalk connecting La Cala to Calahonda along the beach front is a real addition to the area and La Cala itself is a pretty all year round busy little town which doesn't rely so much on tourism.

Hope you find what you are looking for.

Anna

whatever you do stay by the coast its cold inland. The days are short just like the UK. it tends to be windy and cold but sunny and hot if in a nice sun trap on a terrace etc.

@pwwm Albunuelas has popped up in our radar in our search for a place to live. We don't want to live too far from the coast, some ex pats but we want to live in the real Spain and of course learn the language. Is it a good place to live with good infrastructure and medical care etc?

Hello Jogger, to be honest I dont know the place it is on the Granada motorway, Heard of it but we are Albuñol similar names, if you want to know about it around here pm me, we are 4kms from the coast ( La Rábita) 11 kms or so from Adra and 20 mins on motorway to Castell de Ferro, motorway link due to be completed this september after many years, so Málaga will be so much easier. Not too many expats here, need to learn the language or at least try, very friendly free tapas etc etc.

Days are certainly not short like UK, maybe darker mornings but we are not dark until 6 30pm so much more daylight in the afternoon, so not sure where you are, we are south of Granada.

It's a little village quite a long way from the main Motril to Granada motorway. It's really well out in the sticks and a long way from the local hospitals, although there would be a small surgery there. It's also a fair drive down to the coast. Great place for a two week holiday but personally I wouldn't want to live that far out.

Summer is HOT and cold (freezing) in winter.

Thanks for that info Fred, sounds nice but not too inviting in the winter.

Benalmádena Costa has a large expat community and cheap drinks to boot.
Rentals from 250Euros a month. Try GAPP properties (Gamonal Benalmadena) we used them several times in the past, they have all sorts of places. no probs with dogs either.
