Re: Is this feasible?
With the situation in what is arguably the most uncertain state since the referendum itself it's impossible to predict or even guess what may happen in the coming year let alone what may not be doable in 5-7 years time!
By all means visit Spain and explore areas which appeal but I don't see that you can do much more than that until closer to the time you're ready to make a move.

My advice is to make lists of what you want from an area and what you want to avoid so that when you do your investigating trips you do not fall foul of any "rose tinted glasses" ideas and get swept along on that particular wave. When visiting an area make copious notes on what you liked and did not like about it because after a while it can be difficult to remember the smaller details.
Best of luck with your research.

Spain has a rather nasty right wing party becoming kingmaker in many communities. They are called VOX and are already causing problems in Murcia where they are promoting a law which allows parents to remove their children from classes promoting what they consider immoral. I'm afraid homosexuality is one of the areas. Problem is that it appears many spanish parents seem to be in favour of this

Starting your research at an early stage is very sensible. I am a big believer in making sure that all aspects are looked at.

Re: Is this feasible?
Thanks Rosemary. We plan to spend the next couple of years visiting different areas but due to work commit it will only be a week or two at a time, another reason for early planning. Jalon area looks lovely with that quieter feel. Pretty sure it would be country property as don't want to be in a concrete jungle. Any other areas with a similar feel, still no more than twenty minutes from the coast?

Jalon valley is lovely, but a little more than 20 minutes from the beach. There are many villages and small towns all along the costas which are not populated by expats.
To my observation, Spanish are much more tolerant to LGBT than in UK. Two friends of ours (who happen to be gay girls) just bought a house. I would suggest you get a Spanish abogado (solicitor) to prepare a will and you might want to include agreement on what happens if you separate from your partner.
It can get lonely in the countryside. There is no need to socialise if you don't want to, just learn a few basic phrases in another language "no hablo inglés" / "Ik spreek geen Engels"
