Smile Faro Airport to Costa Esuri without a hire car

I know this has been discussed before however things have changed dramatically in the last couple of years so here goes.

Have brought the Skoda down to matriculate onto Spanish plates and have insured with a Spanish company which gives all drivers over 25 the cover to drive the car.

How to get from Faro to CE? Not many will want to be as adventurous as me and catch the airport bus to Faro Station train to VRSTo ferry to Ayamonte then Taxi from the ferry. It works, it is cheap for pensioners but takes half a day. OK if you live here but not if you are out for a long weekend or 5 days. Next would be a private hire taxi about 85€ each way so that eats into the savings on a hire car. For one year about 2006 there was a bus service orgaised by Huelva Province that picked up at the airport and dropped off at the resorts along the coast from Isla Cristina to Punta Umbria and someone reported catching it and getting dropped at CE. Does it still run?

Any other ideas? how can it be done at low cost?

Wow thats the best Ive seen.... some owners have found drivers that will drive THEIR (the owners) car for an hourly rate. As opposed to the driver using his own personal car.

Even then its not far off 24 Euros

However I just did a check and its much more than that and its per person. So the normal taxi or pick up service at 60-85 Euros is better if you are more than one

We spend several months a year in CE and havent as yet been able to justify buying a 2nd hand car there, from both a financial and practical standpoint. As weird as it sounds - so far renting has proved the best (for us).... However if we stayed even longer the balance would shift.....

Thanks for the link naladogs ... very good to keep on file and see if they can compete vs other services

Jon

Have a look at the small print, you get charged return trip too, ours works out twice the price of a normal taxi.

I have noted on the http://thomasallen.home.sapo.pt/travel/001.htm website a mention of a bus from Faro bus station to Seville which stops at Ayamonte Bus Station. There are only about four a day and none in the evening so may not be a lot of use and you still have to get to the bus station. The website only gives the cost of the full journey from Lagos to Seville 20 euros or 34 euros round trip but as Faro to Ayamonte is half the distance it must be much less. seems to run in the winter too.
