Fancy a curry???
 

Hi

My wife and I are hoping to move to portugal or Spain.

We would like to know if people in Spain like to eat traditional indian cuisine.

We are hoping to make a living there by preparing and selling our tasty dishes.

Whats the best way to start?.....

.........Is it to offer to cook an indian meal at a local hotel or restaurant or basically sell from a trailer or just advertise and cook for individual in there own homes??

We've been talking about going abroad for ages.....in my opinion, the only thing Great about Britain is the GREAT amount of Tax we pay!!!:thumbdown:

oh yeah......and theres the Great British weather :thumbdown: the focal point of many conversations and I suppose a good reason to get outta here!

We currently run a used alloy wheel business in the UK and would like any info if there is a market for used wheels in Spain, or if anyone knows of any garage/tyre trader/car dealer who would want to buy some stock?

I personally enjoy Indian cuisine - all that curry! You'll find very few Indian restaurants around here. There are plenty Chinese restaurants, maybe too many - which I personally dislike. My wild guess is that you would have to try a big city or some place like Algarbe o Costa del Sol, one of those places for tourists.
Now... contrary to common knowledge Spanish food is not spicy (in general), but... - who knows? - maybe Indian food will become trendy. At least in London is very hard to find a non-Indian restaurant. Please, smile.

Ok when you say traditional do you mean English restaurant Indian curry style or real Indian style which is very different to what most people eat in the uk. Me i love curry and have perfected Indian restaurant style as this pleases the wife the most and i am a qualified chef so i enjoyed the challenge of learning a new method of cooking and have also been considering the idea of doing this comercialy not on a large scale.

Food hygiene standards outside of the uk in Europe are on the up be prepared for a lot of health related visits and being told how to set up a kitchen. what is your catering experience. As i do don't know if you remember some time ago on tv a gentleman set up an Indian restaurant in france called Indian summer within the first year he closed down due to demand never got any time off work running a restaurant takes a lot of work is you want a successful business.

i can give you some tips on locating spices etc as theese are a lot harder to get out of the uk. and i did find the perfect recipe method for restaurant style menu and on a funnyer note if we happened to pick the right bit off spain we could open a restaurant together.

I've been cooking curry for years and I've come close to the 'real' thing ie, Restuarant standard but not quite achieved it.

We were in in Los Alcazares (Murcia) recently, "out of season" and there was an Indian there, quite good IMO. It couldn't be described as cheap but was reasonably busy - mostly Brits, but I picked up a bit of Dutch as well. The few other restaurants, that were open, were only maybe 30% as busy.
So I'd say, if you aim for the Ex-Pat/tourist areas you could do pretty well. Didn't see a Spaniard either working or eating there on the two occasions we went.
