Default Familia Numerosa

Just been wondering about going through the process of getting a Familia Numerosa card.

Is it worth getting ? Anyone know about it ? Thanks.

We have one - quite a pain to get though!

One of the major benefits is that we can still get the 'book credit' for our third child even though he is now in ESO (secondary school).

Other benefits (although we haven't used them) is discounted entrance to some attractions like the Bio Parc in Valencia and also discounted fares on the trains and buses.

Overall, is it worth it? - I guess for the book credit alone - YES.

We get the book credit without this and although we have always been encouraged to get it, I get the impression that this is largely an outdated thing now due to the changes in the Spanish system.

Thanks for the replies.

I should do it if I get something towards the school books (cost almost 500 euros last year) ..but then I'm not sure we'll still be in Spain for the new school year.

Is this for your third (or more) child? and is he/she in ESO or primary still?

ALL primary children get the book credit without familia numerosa but very few in ESO.

Only my 2 youngest are still in school (primary) and since starting they have both had book credit.

This is not true for all of Spain. In Galicia last year they changed the book credit in primary age children. Year 3 were allowed the book credit automatically, but all other years were dependent on your tax return. Depending on how much you earnt, depended on how much book credit you received. Except for our youngest who is in year 3, we received no book credit allowance for our other two children as we had not filled out a tax return. We spent about 450 euros on school books.

yes, and in Valencia it's different again.

currently all primary school kids are getting automatic bono libro, but this has been phased in over the past 3 years - first y1&2, then 1-4 & this year 1-6

I believe yrs 1&2 of ESO will be included next year & the 3&4 the following year - at least that is what I was last year
