Re: Eye Surgery

The guy that we saw for the consultation did not have glasses he told us that he had it done 7 years ago and 99.9% of people have no problems.

If my wife's goes okay I will consider it, but I will let her be the guinea pig

I will look at Spain though first to compare prices.

She swears by them. She needs to wear sunglasses when it's sunny more than before and experiences some flare when driving at night but apart from that she has been trouble free. She is now beginning to need glasses for close work and computer work but this was explained and is entirely expected

At the time you´re talking about, Boots had invested approx 1.5 million for each laser. The lasers they used would work away at lasering your eye whilst tracking eye movement.
They were also one of the few places ethical enough to put a prescription limit on what they would do.
I believe they got rid of the service as they couldn´t afford the bad press that followed from the unhappy customers!

As for the guy that had laser 7 yrs ago, that also quoted 99.9% of people are fine, I´d be inclined to not trust another single word the man said.
Pay your cash, sign your disclaimer and why not? After all, there´s no going back!

Rosemary do you have the contact details of the company that you friend used?

Does anyone know if there is there are any that I could look at around Nerja when I go in October, I would imagine Malaga has a few.

Nice to visit one that has been recommended.

If its E1k an eye, sorry not got a euro key on PC, thats about £1650 less than half what my Mrs is paying.

I cant believe the treatment is any different than in rip off Britain.

Let us see where this comment takes us . I have had experience of the NHS in the UK and as a lawyer worked on lots of negligence cases but for one bad example the law of statistics indicates 1000's that go like a dream. If a plumber gets it wrong you could have a leak - a Medical guy then totally different story.

Then living in France for years and the French Health system.

Some eight months only in Javea and the Salud - never again

Now back short term in the UK.

In my considered opinion the best health system is undoubtedly France but of course the OP should remember that the market is the market and if the private sector price at whatever level then please take it or leave it.

I went to a clinic in England about 6 years ago, asking about laser treatment so as to do away with my glasses. What I was advised seemed very sensible; I was 62 at the time. He said it really wasn't worth it, because although it would correct my sight, I'd almost immediately need glasses for reading/close work. He said laser treatment worked better on young people since they have many years ahead of them without the need for reading glasses.
So I carry on with glasses/ sometimes contact lenses when I can be bothered to put them in and for which I need reading glasses always.

PS: for what it's worth, we took our handicapped son to a very good eye clinic in Oviedo; it was private, but excellent and with a very good reputation.
