8 bits in a byte, so a 3 MB (Megabytes) would be a 24 Mb (megabits) connection.

Anyone know if a speed of 54 Mbps on broadband is about average or what? Thanks.

No, we don't need to make a big thing about it but Jennydor has a bet riding on it!

Well, I was also the MD of a large computer company in the UK for some years and before that spent 30 years working for IBM.

I can assure you that communication speeds have ALWAYS been measured in bits per second not bytes per second. In the early days they were measured in Baud which (usually) equtes to bits per second.

JDR is quite right - it depends on the capital letters. Normal convention is that a little b is a bit and a capital B is a byte

If you want a reasonable selection of answers just Google - define mbps - and you will see what I mean.
