Does anyone know how we go about getting a European Health Card, issued here in Spain? We're resident. Thanks in advance.

basically it depends on where you currently are registed for State Health care, if you are registed for healthcare with the INSS Spain, you apply to them for an EHIC card, if you are not you will have to see if you can get one out of the UK DWP at Newcastle. .

When we went we didnt have residencia we took our passport, nie and social security card. We filled in some forms and it was issued straight away. Its valid for 1 year.

Its called "Tarjeta de Sanitarious Europea". There are lots of different social security offices. I did write exactly what I did on this forum but cant find the old thread. I think you need a CAISS office that you need. With residencia, it should be alot easier and quicker.

In Barcelona I went to a Seguridad Social office with my NIE and my Spanish health card and they made me a Tarjeta Sanitaria Europea on the spot. Call Seguridad Social.
