It appears almost as a sign of disrespect.

My personal theory is that it must be team policy to avoid conflict between the Castillians and the many Catalonians in the squad who do not consider themselves to be Spanish.
Err I thought that their national anthem was almost unique in not having words - although I seem to recollect plans not long ago to choose some words.

Strange one, I wonder if there's any particular reason and has it always been that way ?

Found a link to it, apparently now it does have words, ..but nobody wants to sing them.

More popular than the anthem was Cara el Sol and schoolchildren were required to sing it before lessons....until Franco departed. Children had to learn all the words.
