The EU wet stamping all British passports
People are having their passports wet stamped on returning to the schengen area regardless of if they are residents in that country. One person even pulled out the part of the withdrawal treaty that says the EU wouldn’t wet stamp residents passports. But apparently orders from higher up have told them to stamp every British passport.

It may be because the TCA is still only provisionally ratified on the EU side and won't be ratified until the end of February at the earliest.

Not everyone resident gets stamped, it seam to be down to luck. Schengen rules clearly say that if in doubt border guard should stamp. It has been reported across EU that passports are stamped, so not just issue in Spain. Hopefully dust will settle and residents stamping will be rare occasion.
Some travelers have themselves to blame, saying they gave passport and were not asked abut their status. Its up to traveler to present him/her self as resident, otherwise will be treated as visitor.

Not in the greater scheme of things but on seeing a recent Schengen stamp, next border official assumes you are a traveller and may start to ask questions about the purpose of your trip, duration and financial ability, which can lead to delay and is an extra hassle. Also you are likely to get another stamp, and the whole thing can repeat itself.

Re: The EU wet stamping all British passports
When the Gibraltar frontier reopened in the early 80's passports were wet stamped on entering and leaving Spain,
So for a Brit living in Spain and working in Gib that was two stamps a day
Spaniards also got stamped into Gib so three stamps a day.
A British passport would last about six weeks although sometimes the Spanish side would refuse to stamp on a page that already had a stamp on it resulting in one stamp per page.
Fortunately it was possible then to get a new passport in Gib in a day so people applied as soon as they were down to a couple of clean pages.

Not everything is officially reported a lot of information comes via word of mouth.
However a week or so ago the British Embassy told people that they had been informed that this was happening and that it should not. https://www.facebook.com/BritsInSpain/?__cft__
scroll down to 21st January.

Wouldn't bother me if they did it every time you left and came back.
It will make a change to actually get something in the passport for a change. The one the wife has, only has 2 stamps in the 8 years she has had the thing.
As a youngster I used to look at my passport and remember all the places we had been to.
