That was what I meant by misunderstanding. There is no gerund in Spanish, but there is a gerundio.

Nandar was a result of fat finger syndrome, aka mistype, but it is amusing that a meaning can be put to it like that.

I was getting my haircut by a rather attractive young spanish lady. One of the blue rinse brigade was getting pampered next to me and I couldn't help but overhear>
"How is your spanish coming along now dear"
"We bin doin' our number this week"
"Oh good, let me hear"
"uno, Dos, Tres, Quantro ........ "

I nearly fell off my chair

2 couples in a bar were talking to the wiater about what they liked best in Spain, the men said "las domingas" because they always go for a meal out and a drinking session.

for those that dont know domingas are BOOBS-KNOCKERS

I made a little Spanglish pun;

Andar, andando, = walk

Grandmother = nan

Grandmother walking = NANdando......

So unless the Spanish peeps you asked know that NAN is Grandmother, they would not get it.

Another word We used when us Spanish kids got together in the UK was, HERMANBRO

Luv it.

Yesterday when some of you were talking about your sunday breakfasts and you made me want eggy bread, I had to go out for the eggs. I couldn't see any and I knew they must be there, and I had to ask the man behind the counter. And I knew I should think of a better way to ask but at that time of the morning my brain could only come up with one way.

That's one of the things I find fascinating about Spanish is that if the sex of the word changes, ie domingo > dominga, the meaning changes radically.

Ok, ok, without wanting to take this thread into the sewer. So for the eggs I guess i could have said "hay" but I'd also considered quiero/quisiera. Not for turnips though, I suppose?

Life is full of little traps like this.

Of all the posters on here, I thought that you would be one of the ones that knew what it meant.

I dont understand it myself, there must have been some very strange men around at the time "names" we being given out.

I can think of a lot of fruit and vey that would serve the purpose, but a bloody turnip........
I feel rather insulted.

In these circumstances, I would advise you to go to a self service establishment................There is not embarrasment involved even when asking for a STRAW................

If the wife catches me, she will kill me................

Yes, but on sundays....
And no, I really hadn't heard turnip used in that way and yes, I have been puzzling over the anatomy of the thing.

Enought. I won't give it another thought.
