Default English speaking jobs in Spain

My family are looking to move to Spain in the near future and the main income earner does not speak Spanish and is not far off retirement age so I don't think he will become good enough at it for most jobs in Spain. Are there any websites or ways I can find jobs for English speakers in Spain? Preferably jobs such as a bus driver?

If you are Uk citizens you have to apply for a visa before you can come here. Unless the main earner does something no European can do I doubt you will qualify.

Why would a bus driver need english? Spanish bus drivers speak Spanish.

Give us some more info someone may be able to assist you.

Hola

The real answer is not a hope; but you need to do some research to prove it. Google "UK citizens moving to Spain after withdrawal agreement" and you will find a lot of information - it is now very difficult to get a "low skilled" job as there are many Spanish who are unemployed

Plus, if they want cheap immigrant labour for low skilled jobs, Venezuelans/ other spanish speaking South Americans much more suitable than British (due to language)

Not the answers that the OP wanted, I suspect. Sorry but this is harsh reality hitting home.

Many in Spain from Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela. They go for both low paid unskilled jobs and the younger generation now quite likely to have a 3 level education, so get good jobs here in Spain.

okonumiyaki, so just to clarify that these immigrants do not just go for low paid and unskilled jobs...

larab28, you have a few issues, as follows:

1) Not speaking Spanish
2) "main income earner" is over 50 and in fact close to retirement. In the UK you may get work when you are over 50, but in Spain it is quite difficult as age discrimination by employers against older workers is quite common here.
3) Driving licence. It is a lot trickier to get a licence here, that in the UK. The driving test is a bit more difficult here, in general, that the UK. You sort of missed the boat if you did not apply to convert your UK licence before the 31/12/20 to a Spanish one.
4) Without going into the detail, since the 31/12/20 there are lots more ´hoops´ for UK citizens to go thru, owing to Brexit, if you want to become a resident here.
5) Not sure what the situation is with health insurance, but you would need to check that. There are others here who know more about that.

Probably there are other issues but I have to see a man about a dog and can´t simply loiter on here all day....

Wouldn’t bother with Spain at the moment. Maybe look at Portugal.

There are more jobs for English speaking bus drivers, close to retirement in Portugal than Spain?

I would imagine the situation is worse in Portugal than Spain, or you have some rational for making that statement?

Working in Spain

If you were legally resident in Spain before 1 January 2021, you have the right to work, as long as you remain legally resident.

If you are planning to come to Spain to work, you may need a visa or permit. You should check with the Spanish Embassy in the UK.

To apply for a job, you may need to provide a:

If you do some research along the Costa and similar regions favoured by many British residents you may find some demand for english-speakers in certain types of jobs but the applications for residency and the requirements are much tougher post-Brexit.

Unless you are an entrepreneur with a business plan, and the money to put it into practice, if you want to come to Spain and work then you will need a job offer from an employer who will then apply for a visa on your behalf.

For someone to offer you a position they would have to demonstrate that it cannot be filled by a Spanish national, a pretty high bar if you are not an expert or specialist of some sort with skills in demand in the country.

The days of rocking up and looking for a job are gone.

Ah yes, I knew there was one more thing....

6) Getting a job here is more about who you know, rather than, what you know... Even for professionals...

And then you have several million other EU nationals who don't require a visa and speak English. Not impossible as a driver though and not much has changed since 2019, so there are opportunities if you're happy with the pay.
