As Concierges for the Spanish section of BE we would like to say hello and welcome.

BE is a very large expat website, so if you have problems finding your way around we have concierges who will try to direct you. The moderators for the Spanish forums are Mitzyboy and Fred James, moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderador who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge of the issues of living in Spain. At the top of the page you will find a quirkily named thread called Free Beer which is full of important and useful information. Hope you enjoy your time participating in the forums.

Do not know what it is like in that particular area of Valencia but hopefully someone will be along soon to help you. English speaking doctors are harder to come by in areas that have few Brits, are there many Brits in your vacinity?

Please let us know if you need any further help.

Rosemary and Graham

Sorry, we're further South than you, but even here we dont have any doctors (or indeed anyone in the health centre) that speaks English

After all that we have said about no English speaking doctors at the hospital I attend I have now been placed under a new one whose English is better than mine,(no comments). There may be hope for you yet. The two doctors and nurses at our surgery do not speak a word of English and we live 40Kms south of Valencia. I suppose a lot could depend on the amount of Brit immigrants that there are in your locale.

even where I live with lots of Brits in the area, very few of the state doctors speak very much English

I know of a private one who speaks excellent English though - but oddly (or at least some people have commented to me that it seems odd) the private hospital they refer you to in Denia has few English speaking staff, whereas the State hospital there seems to have lots, and even has interpreters on duty 24/7!

Thanks, I'm actually looking for private doctor. I found out that Quiron hospital is private and has some English speaking docs and staff. I called there to make an appointment but the appointment they're giving me to see a general doctor not a specialist, is after three weeks

thinking if there's a local clinic I might get more luck but I have yet to find local clinic in my area...

Assuming you mean Campanar why not go to Reception or look on the web site of the private hospital 9 de Octubre.

Or assuming you have no state cover consider joining Sanitas, they have their own hospital in Valencia plus list names of English speaking doctors and specialists in their handbook. 9 oct. is an Asisa hospital but accepts private paying patients.

Or if there is a place called Companar let us know where that is exactly and we could help further.

In my area of Valencia you are expected to take an interpreter along with you to health centres and clinics, if you don't have a good grasp of Spanish, otherwise they won't attend to you unless it's an emergency of course.
There are lots available at a reasonable price, in my area at least.

Interesting. Can you pls give me a rough idea on pricing for this interpreter service? and whether you get the interpreter through a company? Thanks

You got it, its actually Campanar. I plan on visiting 9 de octubre on Saturday and see if I get any luck there...

Thanks for the tip on Sanitas. I'll check it out.

About 15 euros an hour round my way.
Most are individuals operating privately for cash and can be quite helpful in many other ways to newcomers.
If you look through any local English newsletters and other publications you should find one or two.
If you PM me your approximate location in relation to Valencia, I may be able to advise further or pass on details of one or two contacts
Regards D.D.

Thanks for this info. I'll first try myself at 9 de octobre and in case of difficulty I'll request you for those contacts.

Apologies, I see where you are now from your first post.
I'm quite a bit further out from Valencia so I'm not sure if you're within range of my contacts, though it may still be a possibility.
Anyway best of luck tomorrow,I hope you get sorted ok.

Take a look on Linkedin for interpreters in Valencia itself and get some quotes for their services.

Finding a general practitioner in Valencia who is fluent in English is difficult. Ive lived here 10 years and never found one.
