I think I mentioned before, it doesn't have a timer on it !
Also, since the boiler is simply plugged into the nearest wall socket, a standard socket timer device should do. |

The electric ones I've seen don't seem to have timers, but where I live there is a timer switch in the fuse board just for the boiler unit.

Check the power rating of the timer some are quite low for lamps etc others have up to 3600 watts which you would need for something like a plug in water heater.

Re: Energy Upgrading for Shower Problems
Well I have one which is rated"max load 3,120w", I thought boilers were only 1.5Kw anyway 🤔

Yes boilers vary some are 1.2 kw some 2Kw etc. Your timer is capable of high load some aren't . Just mentioned it for safety . |
Re: Energy Upgrading for Shower Problems
I have used a 3,600 W timer on our boiler for years without any issues.

you also need to check amperage of the timer for 1.5 KW they recommend 13 amp the one i use exceeds that and is 16 amps. Its all to do with amount of electricity draw that a boiler uses as high electric power. If the timer is only say capable of 6 amps you would have an issue

is your boiler on a standard plug or wired in by the plumber ? If its wired in you would need a wired in timer. If its a standard plug then go for a euro plug timer as i described thats if its a 1.5 kw heater .

It's a standard plug boiler that plugs into the wall socket. I will look for a Spanish timer as you describe.

Re: Energy Upgrading for Shower Problems
you can get them with a fancy digital clock timer or simple 24 hour circle with pins you pull out to set the time. I prefer the older fashioned simple 24 hour pin type myself. I had a digital clock type one on a boiler in the uk and could never be confident i had got my head around how to set it. So i stick with simplicity which works for me.

To be honest when I was thinking about it afterwards I am not sure whether it was 1.5Kw or 2Kw. Anyway I am thinking of getting a digital one, I usually end up breaking the pins on a manual one ðŸ˜

Mine is usually, I am a technophobe but for some reason I can work digital clocks out. It's when tradesmen start talking to me about how solar systems work that my brain ceases up ! 😂😂

If I was to go with something more modern then I'd probably skip the digital timer ones and go with one of those smart plugs like the Tipo wifi one, that I could then control via an app and even switch on and off remotely if need be. |

Yeah, amazing how much easier it is to just set and then monitor the analog ones with pins. The only drawback is that some of the archaic models were LOUD, but then it's not like you're going to be sleeping next to the boiler unit anyway... :)

Funny enough I have just changed my plug in timer for another pin type one as the old one was quite old . The new one as you say is much quieter when switching on and off. The pin ones are great for me so simple but effective. Only downside really with them is if you have a lengthy power cut you have to remember to re set the time otherwise timings are out as timer stops when power cuts. Smart plugs seem a good idea but for my simple needs old pin timer fits the bill.

As the saying goes " Each to their own! ".
The digital ones are fine too but I'd still skip ahead to the newer ones that you can control via an app. It's certainly easier to set them from your phone than it is to have to read the user manual and do everything via little buttons everywhere. :) |
