Els Poblets - Denia travel by bus
We are looking at renting in Els Poblets from 1st October to 30th November and do not want to rent a car for the entire period. Is there anyone on here who has experience of using the local bus service please.
Currently considering a good offer in amongst the calle one to ten area (hope this makes sense) If anyone has a villa in this area or in Denia and would like to let their property please let me know asap.

We particularly like Denia but it is difficult finding anything suitable at a reasonable price that close to the town.
I can confirm now Mitzyboy that we like parts of Oliva quite a lot, particularly the area near to the yacht basin but over to the left as you approach it. We also like the area on the right hand side of the main road as you travel to the end of the main road behind all of the apartments on the left in Oliva Playa. We do not like Oliva Nova but it's purely a personal thing isn't it.
Not really looking for a lot happening but going into Denia is a must.
We may well hire a car for several of the weeks we are there to go to our usual places we like and new ones.

the bus service is poor out of season - like 1 sep onwards. Maybe every 2 hrs tops & finishing say 8pm.
I cycle down there - its 10-15 mins from denia & flat.
Bus service is free this summer

Theres a lot of places on the beach all along the coast road towards Denia, although I dont know how to find them as rentals. Els Poblets town is a bit of a walk to the beach
Oliva Nova is a bit of a wierd place isn't it!

We have stayed in several places around Denia over the last nigh on 3 years. La Sella sticks in the mind (who on earth would want to live there-sorry to anyone who does and who loves the place)
Seems from what Poolboy says I am going to have to rent a car, although perhaps not all the time

a taxi would only be 10e or so so if a hire car is going to sit there all week at 100 gbp maybe best to just take taxis & the bus if it is convenient.
The areas fine, not my cup of tea, but watch out for flooding as some of those rivers flood in the downpours - being out of denia proper you are way down the list of being cleared up by the town hall.
If I were choosing somewhere for 2 months in oct nov I'd go for something more central, like km 2 Las Marinas tops or behind near the tennis club. You can then walk into town, library, markets, beaches, trains south, Montgo etc.

How about Almadrava (I think!) Is it prone to flooding?
The trouble is trying to find property at a reasonable rent. We did stay in Las Marinas a year ago January but in a very small terraced house which was bitterly cold.
I take your point about taxi's.

there are 2 rivers flowing to the beach in that area - they both flood in the storms q badly & the storms will happen for a week in oct nov. At c/10 you are in the middle so no direct worries but you may be driving for a bit of a detour.
You are only renting, if you get flooded you can just leave! some people own property there.
I have rented villas to long term tenants q a few times now & to be honest their expectations are far in excess of what they pay. Oct is still prime letting season so a holiday let will pay 500 min pw & if they aren't brilliant guests they are gone next saturday, for 2 months we are stuck with each other.
Don't take it personally but for what long term tenants offer me for my villa I am better leaving it empty - I would lose less money.
Good luck in the search

Is Calle de Tres in a bad place for flooding?

Re: Els Poblets - Denia travel by bus
The actual town centre at Els Poblets was devastated by the floods a few years back. The area was under water as the river broke its banks. It was a horrible mess, I remember.
You would be nearer the beaches though from what you say .... I dont remember that being badly flooded (we use that road to drive to Denia), but I may be wrong
Having said that the same happened at Calpe and other towns around the area.

the part of Javea I was living in at the time was also pretty much devastated - & last winter & 2008 has had much more minor problems, but problems nevertheless - that part of town is just prone to flooding - thankfully not as bad as in 2007 - but there's always the chance it will happen again

Re: Els Poblets - Denia travel by bus
I have just been down the Las Marinas road - packed in summer! the traffic was backed up miles. Calle 3 is between the 2 rivers I think, it must be near the roman remains, if so, there are some lovely roads & being Spain, some tatty ones.
The restaurant beginning with T by Bar Isa beach access is v good, don't know the name I am afraid. The one right on the beach.
