Hola All
We are in a battle with our neighbours over our electric cable crossing his land. The previous owners had it put up over 6 years ago and he has now after all this time has decided he wants us to put it underground at our expense or he will denounce us. He says he owns the pylon and did not give permission to previous owners to put a line on as he was away at the time. (Actually we have heard from friends that he did give permission as he fancied the girl who asked!!!!!)
If this was the case we do not understand why he did not denounce them.
Does anyone know if individuals own pylons? Any info would be helpful

Be interested to see how this pans out. I have an Iberdrola cable running over my land, but more importantly right over my swimming pool. When last some Iberdrola workers came I asked them if they could move it, but they shrugged their shoulders and said no it wasnt causing a problem. :eek:

Sounds like he`s trying to scam some money out of you ,If you have a lawer pass his details to your neighbor and tell him to speak to the lawer, this will scare off most campasinos ,also speak to your electricity provider as they are responsible for cables upto the meter so if the meter is on the side of your house arguably its their responsibility.

Almost certainly complete carp. The pole (or pylon) will be owned by the electricity company - who will have paid him for siting it on his land. So long as the wires are in the air, not running along on the ground then he's got as much chance of succeeding with a claim against you as he has against RyanAir for their planes crossing "his" sky.
The only possibility is if the cable to your place is too low and is causing an obstruction, but it doesn't sound as if this is the case.

A lot depends on whether it is a high tension cable just passing overhead or whether it's a low tension cable going to your meter.

The high tension cables are usually overhead but the supply cables to the meter now have to run underground from the last pylon.

When we built our house the low tension supply (from a remote transformer) terminated on a concrete pylon in the road. The builders had connected a temporary supply to the pylon which was OK but when we wanted a proper supply we had to have a trench dug for 50m with manhole covers every 30m. The supply cables had to be in large bore conduit and there had to be a spare conduit as well. They were then connected up into the external meter box.

Without that we could not be connected - it was not cheap!! Over €3000

The rules have all changed in the last few years so you really need to check out what the requirements are.

It's not really up to him (or you) what to do with the supplier's cables so just refer him to the electricity supply company and let them deal with him. He was now doubt recompensed in the first place and is now trying it on.

This is an interesting one ... We had to have new cables installed from the meter (on the road) to our house some 200m away - OK But we also had to change the cables that went from the meter on the road up the concrete pylon. Apparantly they are my responsibility as is the pylon!!!

Clearly, the cables from the top of the pylon are 'owned' by Iberdrola but why should I be responsible for the ones from there down to the meter box? It's not like that in UK.

I bet if the pylon got damaged & needed repairing/replacing ,they wouldn't rush to declare ownership then.
