I'm confused now. I've 5.75 ICP & if I overuse, do I pay a penalty or the switch will trip?

Fred, I think you may be wrong. My Spanish electrician tells me that the ICP will trip if you try and draw more current than it allows - he even showed me with our installation!
There used to be an excess usage charge if you went over 1000kw in 2 months. I don't know if that is what you are referring to.

If you DO NOT have an ICP installed (and they have been writing to everyone who, for some reason does not have one) then if you do not fit one they just increase you standing charge to the maximum.

Yes, you electrician is right - it will trip - that's what an ICP is supposed to do!

If you go over 5.75KW for a minute or so the ICP will trip and you have to reset it after you have reduced the load by switching something off.

There is no penalty apart from the inconvenience!

Thanks very much Fred. My neighbors have been telling me all sorts of nonsense.

[QUOTE=ForHotspot;9078492]Can anyone please tell me if you use over the ICP (potencia), will you get a penalty
(75 euros fine) or is it the switch in the electric box in the house which will shut off the electric supply?

The ICP prevents you from drawing excess power mine is 5.7 KW and my standing charge equals just under 12 euro per month. Often has the final straw is the kettle which will trip the ICP as they draw quite a bit of power.
