Re: EHIC Updates

The reports are right.

UK EHIC cards remain valid in the EU until they expire.

The PRC protocol also remains valid.

The UK are replacing the EHIC card with a GHIC from now on.

Best

Like the Nightingale hospitals which are now being stripped out, many unused because of insufficient trained staff - oh well whats another 200+ million pounds...

Re: EHIC Updates

exactly so,,,,,I have taken out residency in Portugal because of loss of EHIC, which now seems not to be the case. SO now gotta change driving licence if I wantg to drive, which means that insurance for Uk car in UK costs a fortune if you can get it at all with being non resident and with a portuguese driving licence which will have been held for 1 months.
Total mess as usual Boris

Surely you cannot believe that the government in London is acting in the interests of the people ?

Re: EHIC Updates

not a question of that, its just telling us for months that EHIC no longer valid after 31st Dec and then a day before saying that it is still valid.
but are we talking about UK residents or Uk citizens with an EU residency where this applicable.

Re: EHIC Updates

Usually UK citizens living in UK, but sometimes UK-resident foreigners are eligible for EHIC - depends on personal situation and the country you hope to use your card in. This was the case until 31st December.
Generally speaking, those with residency in an EU country shouldn't use UK-issued EHIC, unless UK is paying for your healthcare in which case you can use the new EHIC card under CRA.
