Economical Travel/Health Insurance

Economical Travel/Health Insurance
Does anybody have any advice for travel/health insurance for someone with a serious (although stabalised) health condition. Comparative sites in the UK start at £1,600ish for single trip (£1,800 for multi-trip), which seems extortionate. The premiums seem to leap up as soon as Spain is mentioned as a destination.
Is it possible to get a policy which excludes the condition but covers one for everything else - ie unrelated accidents etc or can you rely on the cover on provided under the EHIC?

forget the EHIC option, it is only for holiday use and any treatment will be subject to acceptance by the Spanish medical system.

May be of use to others -although it strictly speaking applies in Valencia I'd guess it is much the same for the respt of SP
I also found this extract from EU rules on 'necessary health care' http://www.healthcareinspain.eu/the-ehic.php - which suggests that some chronic conditions are covered under the EHIC for temporay travellers.
Sorry - I seem to be answereing my own question on EHIC - prompted by my first post. I've applied for a quote from Ibex.
I'm impressed by the speed of responses - thanks a lot.

The 'patient' is not a resident in Spain but a frequent temporary visitor (holiday home) - I think this makes makes a difference on the EHIC. I found this link when trawling the forum after I first posted http://www.healthcareinspain.eu/the-ehic.php

the EHIC is only for holidays - Yes, but only at a lower level and reference is made to the fact that certain things may not be covered by the Spanish Health System.
surely anyone with anywhere near a Chronic illness, in remission or stabilised, should be looking at the added components from private cover, which is the only way to get a flight home if needed.
but so saying although I haven't had the experience of SP hospitals they seem to have fewer "unexplained" fatalities than the NHS and manage to keep many millions of people alive on a daily basis.
the main difference is that they expect to release a patient asap into the care of the family.
