I received this message about a year ago, I don’t think it’s a brexit thing, I think it’s a fall out between EBay and PayPal....obviously over money as eBay think they have created the most clients for PayPal.

Basically, if you sell ANYTHING using your UK eBay account, you now have to register your bank account. I have odds and sods that I still need to get rid of.

Correct, absolutely nothing to do with Brexit.

The most annoying bit is that it can take over a week for the payment to reach your bank account, which means you have to pay the postage on your item before you receive the money. Owing to high postage costs in Australia I am currently $200 out of pocket and have no idea when I will get the money from ebay. I'm nor a business, I'm just selling possessions for myself and 2 friends. Its a really lousy move by ebay.

Yes, that is one thing I saw was that it will take longer for payments to clear.

Typically, for more expensive items I would not post it, until the payment had cleared.

Back in the day I used to also get cheques which were a pain in the ass, as a trip to the bank was required to lodge them.

But not received a cheque now for aeons.

Its just another way for Ebay to 'control' whats going on.
Seeing as they used to own Paypal (or they were a merged co).
It was bound to happen at some point (I bet there was an agreement when they split that Ebay would not go somewhere else for a payment system for a few years).

To be honest, if the buyer and seller still wants to use Paypal, I can't see how eBay will stop them, you can send invoices through eBay and just allow the customer to pay (Ive done this with credit card payments from customers). In fact it might lead to people moving away from eBay (I don't buy much these days as the same stuff is on Amazon now).

Ive sold on eBay, etsy, ebid, amazon and a few others over the years and they are all great when they start and then they get greedy.

And as stated not a Brexit thing. Just greedy business people.

Here in Spain Vinted is big (the ads are on multiple times a day) Wallapop also and of course Amazon.es (although Ive got better prices from Amazon.de). And of course you can still pay with PayPal
The only good thing about eBay is that its worldwide. When I was selling as a business in the Uk 40% came from the States, but now we are living in Spain, its too expensive to ship stuff, so I've not really bothered.

The world might be getting smaller but for some reason, shipping has become harder and a lot more expensive over the years (Ive been shipping overseas from the Uk since the mid 1980's)

In fact about 5 years ago I delivered some jewellery in person from the Uk to Germany as the return flight costs were cheaper than the direct overnight shipping with the insurance. And I got a day out. As well as an important client for extra work :)

Considering it is nigh on impossible to get a legitimate VAT refund from any Ebay or even most Amazon sellers I wonder at the legitimacy of most of these so called traders.

- They are going to block you doing sales if you do not register a bank account.
- The system of charges is going to change. The combined fees you paid to eBay and paypal will now be merged into charges that will deducted from payments you receive from buyers, before the money is paid into your bank account. eBay say that overall the fees a seller incurs will reduce.
- Buyers will still be able to use paypal but sellers can only receive payments into their bank account...

Seems like eBay are on a mission here to force sellers to register their bank accounts.
I know others in the UK who sell quite a bit on eBay and they are quite unhappy about having to register their bank account with eBay.

The main reason I wont be adding my bank details is for those buyers who are looking for free stuff. Or just complain for no reason.

They will complain to eBay who will then just remove the money from your account.
At least at the moment PayPal make the refund at no cost to the seller. And then you can appeal.

As the years have gone by, eBay has eroded the sellers ability to complain about buyers, removing the negative feedback (although still allowing buyers to give it). Making the seller pay for return postage.

Some of my stuff was quite high end (I sold jewellery I made for film and Tv that was used on the production) and even with proof of delivery eBay sided with the buyer (one day said it didn't arrive, then said it didn't match the description). They still got a refund and while I kept most of the money, they got free stuff.
I lost sales because I refused to send anything unless it was Special Delivery in the Uk and Signed for International or courier everywhere else. I even stated why in my descriptions.

I moved everything to etsy after that. And on my own website. But eBay have it stitched up and you loose the advertising.

I liked money going into my paypal account from the sales of bits and bobs, can't say to the wife "I got £50 for that gizzmo" when in fact I got £100...taken all the fun out of it :(

Absolutely agree!!!!

eBay has completely become skewed in favour of the buyer now...

Removing the sellers ability to leave negative feedback for buyers just handed powered to buyers to do as they pleased! Before that buyers were more cautions.

My listing still carry some T&Cs, including, "buyer pays all postage costs". In the past I was able to enforce that and buyers who wanted to return goods paid the return postage costs but I don´t think it is possible to enforce this any longer.

As a platform for selling goods, eBay for sure has lost its lustre!!!

I still have lots of items in the UK (and Spain) I need to offload..

I am going to have to think about the best way to do that...
