Re: Easy Jet to Charge Allocated Seating
From Reuters
Budget carrier easyJet Plc (EZJ.L) said on Wednesday it would roll out allocated seating across its network from November following a successful trial this summer. Europe's second-largest low-cost carrier after Ryanair (RYA.I) had tested the new system across 5 percent of its network during the peak season with 70 percent of passengers preferring it to easyJet's current predominantly first-come-first-serve set-up. |

But is this another "extra charge?"
Allocated seating will be rolled out across easyJet's network from November, with all passengers allocated a seat. Those wishing to change their seat will be charged £12 for front row and overwing seats, £8 for berths in the four rows behind the front row, and £3 for anywhere else. "The majority of people will not have to pay for their seat," said an easyJet spokesman. |

You'll be allocated a seat nearer the time.

I said I would sit there if they paid me £10 for my additional responsibilities, extra if I was called on to use them, and would I get a certificate at the end of the trainining course ? Needless to say - I stayed where I was. |

Re: Easy Jet to Charge Allocated Seating
Presumably they will allocate the worst seats possible just so you will pay to change it?
For example, anyone travelling alone will be allocated a middle seat, couples will be allocated seats at opposite ends of the aircraft, etc. |

surely they want you to be physically fit and able to sit in the overwing seats which is where the emergency exits are ??

Surely the price of your ticket has to guarantee you a seat, for heaven's sake? |
Re: Easy Jet to Charge Allocated Seating
I think it is a great idea ... we flew back Alicante to Gatwick on Sunday night (very late) and there was chaos with the seating. A large family with several very small children arrived late at the gate and then the whole plane was shuffled round to accommodate them. We weren't affected as we had exit-row seats (not suitable for passengers under 16), so I've no axe to grind here, but it would certainly make for less bad feeling amongst people who've boarded early and chosen their seats, and then been split up right around the aircraft.

Re: Easy Jet to Charge Allocated Seating
Anything that prevents the scrum at boarding time is good for me.
Unfortunately, even with allocated seating there will still be a mad rush to get on board first - if not for seats then simply to be able to get your hand baggage in the overhead locker. If you can't find a slot overhead or underfeet then it has to go in the hold, which for hand-baggage-only travellers is a right pain because you have to wait ages to get your bag back. |

Re: Easy Jet to Charge Allocated Seating
I usually fly Monarch and althought they already allocate seating there is still a bit of a rush to get on the plane. I'm as guilty as anyone for queuing early because I've seen hand luggage relegated to the hold on many occasions.
