Driving licence exchange, latest news....
It appears that the exchange fiasco has been finalised.
As of 28th Feb 2022 if you have a UK issued licence and haven't been able to exchange or you arrive here after that date you will need to take a test.

Basically this means that if you elect to become a Spanish resident you will either have to forgo driving or do a test. Hopefully this will be made clear to all so that people are aware of what to expect if they now move from UK to Spain. Next the issue of whether the full test can be conducted in English needs to be clarified by DGT and officially communicated by the UK government.

I thought this but some posters are claiming that they know people( usual 3rd party reports!) who say the examiner spoke English or they had an interpreter.

So who knows, there may be another extension, or an exchange agreement. Announced at the last minute of course.

Looks to me like anyone who hasn't sorted out their driving licence at this state is living on borrowed time....

my gfs parents get their residency but now it’s probably best they don’t. The 90 day rule will be easier to work round. There’s that much jobs in the uk that you can just work three Months at a time with ease. If he doesn’t become a resident then he can still drive his own British car in Spain on his own licence. No messing. For me I’m confident I could pass a Spanish test. As long as it’s not in Catalan I should be good to go. Doing the Spanish test will be an experience at least.

There was an article last week saying that a deal for data exchange between the UK and Spain to allow direct exchanges to be done again was imminent. I will see if I can find the link. It certainly seems there is a will to make it happen on both sides so who knows.....

Is it possible to stay in Ireland for a while and convert to that one first? That should then make it easier to convert to a Spanish one...
P.S. I bet you might possibly even get an Australian one converted since Australia will convert a Spanish one without any tests...
