Donating Body in Spain

I was reading the British Consulates info on Funerals and one suggestion was body donation. Just wondering whether this is an option bearing in mind how quick funerals normally take place.

Hi

The route of body donation is not secure; your body can be rejected for any number of reasons including "they have sufficient bodies"! Also it can not be donated if you have had an operation in the last two years.

Also don't die on a Friday as they may reject it on the basis that it is past its use by date on Monday.

I have made arrangements for my body to go to the anatomy department of the provincial hospital.
The paperwork is all done, my friends are aware and have been told to hand the papers to the police or ambulance or the first official they can find and then walk away.
Anyone wanting to spend money on me, buy me flowers or have a party for me has been asked to do it whilst I'm alive.
No takers yet.
This is free and there is no service or anything. If you donate body parts then there are funeral costs.

Reading the last sentence, I was just wondering what the main pull of donating ones body is.

Is it the fact that bodies are needed and it is for the greater good of science and medicine, or to save on funeral costs?

For some people it is the fact that there are no close family members.

For me it's because I see absolutely no reason for a burial, I prefer to give the anatomy students something to practice on.

I so agree with ionie... I think I'll look at that option. Can't stand the thought of a funeral. There should be a way of local authorities disposing of bodies after they've past their sell by date. :amen:

I donated my body to medical science in my will. Unfortunately medical science contested the will!
