Dogs across borders

We want to go to France for a couple of weeks with our two dogs, one English and one Spanish. Can anyone tell me what they need to enter and exit France and also Exit and enter Spain?
They have the usual jabs. They have both been chipped and both have Anti Rabies - the UK one valid for another two years, with blood test, the Spanish one for one year, awaiting blood test.
I think they both need a recent tick and tapeworm to enter France.

Many thanks

I've done it many times and never been asked for anything. There's nobody there to ask you! Half the time you can't even tell which country you're in. It's only the UK which bothers about that sort of thing. I suppose there might be laws but I wouldn't worry about it.

Do they need pet passports or is that purely a UK thing?

Probably advisable to carry valid pet passports, but other than that I agree with jimenato that they generally aren't bothered or the least bit interested.

What is the legal requirement regarding insurance/civil liability?

Hi, quick answer from France - French dog owners should inform their Home/Civil Liability Insurance company about the existence of their pet(s). Our insurance paid up for vet's fees when our dog attacked another in our village.
So check that your insurance covers you for any damage your dogs might make in France! In any case, take their Passports in case they are injured...

Technically you should pop down to the vets with mutts & passports they will sign a declaration in the passport saying that the beasties are fit to travel.
No one has ever checked ours, but we do it anyway.
and you are quite correct, worms & ticks every time they travel !
