Dog eat dog from now on?
Good news for Spanish jobs, but bad news for British workers

The AirTanker consortium, in which Cobham is a shareholder, said Airbus Military and Cobham Aviation Services had agreed that 10 aircraft would be converted to air-to-air refuelling jets in Spain, rather than at Cobham's facility in Bournemouth, south England.

No real surprises there then, it is going to get nasty as long as this mess continues.

Possibly they are hingher in the UK., but don't you think that Spains are massaged too. Even those who have been unemployed for 2 years aren't counted. It is an open secret in Brussels that any figures coming out of Spain are fiddled, has been so for years. Many times they have sent their stats back for revision.

And I wonder what the true figure for Spanish unemployment is, when people who are not getting dole are not classed as unemployed, especially women who are classed as "home makers".

The figure regularly quoted by the likes of the Telegraph when Labour were in power, was 9 million "economically inactive". For some reason they haven't mentioned that lately.

http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/rel/lms/la...012/index.html
The employment rate for those aged from 16 to 64 was 70.6 per cent, up 0.3 on the quarter.
There were 29.28 million people in employment aged 16 and over, up 166,000 on the quarter. The number of people employed in the private sector increased by 205,000 to reach 23.38 million but the number of people employed in the public sector fell by 39,000 to reach 5.90 million, the lowest figure since March 2003.
The unemployment rate was 8.2 per cent of the economically active population, down 0.2 on the quarter. There were 2.61 million unemployed people, down 51,000 on the quarter.
The inactivity rate for those aged from 16 to 64 was 23.0 per cent, down 0.2 on the quarter. There were 9.23 million economically inactive people aged from 16 to 64, down 69,000 on the quarter.
So we have 2.61 million 8.2% unemployed plus 9.23 million 23.0% inactive with 29.28 million 70.6% in employment. Making 41.12 million or 101.8% ???
If we have 41.12 million potential workers and only 29.28 million working that makes the unemployment rate of 28.8%

But the markets still let the uk borrow at less than 2% and there are still jobs (real jobs not TEFL) advertised.

Ahem... has anyone actually caught on to the fact, that inflight refueling, is dangerous? 500 mph and you're trying to stick a steel tube in a hose from a VERY large aircraft, whilst staying below the huge hole in the sky it leaves (wake turbulence)

Re: Dog eat dog from now on?
Well economically inactive includes tens of thousands of students, carers, housewives who aren't looking for a job and maybe some other sections so it sort of busts that theory
Eurostat accepts UK unemployment figures but not BE!

Anyway the first crude attempts at inflight refuelling go back to filling the tank from a can in mid-air back in the 1920s.
Credit to those guys definitely.
The present stsyem was pioneered in the 30s and 40s by the RAF and eventually taken up by the US in the late 40s, so it's really old hat now.
