Does anyone teach in an International School?

Hello everyone!

I´m hoping someone can help!!! I did read a post somewhere of someone who was actually teaching in an international school in Spain but I can´t remember the posters name now. Oops!

Anyway, my hub and I may be moving to the south coast and I am thinking about teaching in an International School. I was teaching in the UK for 14 years until last year when we moved to La Mancha for my (Spanish) hubby´s work. There aren´t enough of us `extranjeros´to support an International Hamster Cage, let alone a whole school, so have been teaching English, which I´m thoroughly enjoying. If we do move down South I´m toying with the idea of returning to the classroom but would really like some input as to how good/ bad/ indifferent it is compared to UK schools.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: Does anyone teach in an International School?

I worked in the British International College, Nuevo torequabrada, part time as a gym coach a few years ago, so as not a "teacher" and only part time cannot say much about what it is like to work full time teaching. I enjoyed the hours I did, many Nationalities there, also many international schools along the coast to choose from, many have web sites including BIC.

Hope this may help

I've done some supply teaching in one and also have had kids at two of them.
I've discovered that there's a huge difference between schools and how staff are treated in them. If you are thinking of applying to a school I would ask them what their rate of staff turnover is!
Some offer full contracts and some only cover term time so that staff have to register for benefits during the holidays!
Good luck.

Thank you both very much for your replies!

I´ve just read Kayley´s reply to another thread which has given me a good lead as we will probably be in the Nerja area if we do relocate.

I´m really enjoying teaching English where we are at the moment, not a huge amount of money but very little stress

Thanks both again!

Sorry for hijacking this thread. Whereabouts are you in La Mancha cielito?
I'm in Jaen. There are so few of "us" round this way.
Good luck with your move down to the coast.
