Is of course the first reaction, but
Just how can the system allow such abuse ?

I think the penalty was about right tbh.
For me, people should be free to protest about anything they want. In this case, the protestors were deliberately offensive, so got charged for it. Fair enough.
However, the protestors have a point and a right to make that point publically, but they could and should have protested in a more civilised manner.
Btw, I abhored the treatment of the student protestors a few months ago. In a free and confident society people are allowed to protest. If they damage property then sure, arrest them, but dont beat them up and "kettle" them BEFORE they've had a right to protest. That behaviour is from a totalitarian state ran by the privaledged few, which I fear the UK is turning into.

If the article quoted can be taken as a measure of the freedom enjoyed by people living in a civilised society, then us Brits can be rather proud of our country.
If a protester back in the country where this idiot’s family originated from had burned a similarly emotive object in the street in full public view, he would not have been fined, he would have been killed on the spot.
So let that ridiculous fine send a message to the barbarians, and quietly deport the cxxx when no one is looking.

It's like when people want to burn the flag. The correct response is to start up a business selling them flags at a premium.

How did the early Christians convert the heathen masses to their religion?
When they were nailed to the crosses on the approach road to Rome, they all burst into song.
I wonder how the bearded monster burning the poppies would have reacted if the Christian onlookers had all stated singing, ‘Always look on the bright side . .’ Might have been more effective than a paltry fine.

If you react to these people, you give them strength. Laughing at them weakens them.

5o quid fine, Hmmmmm all paid for by the great British public/fools.
Obviously the saying "It's wise not to bite the hands that feed you" doesn't even affect them.
He said his wages were £480 a month, on top of which he receives a monthly £792 in benefits from the state.
