One on edge of Sevilla still open last week, noticed as I passed by on main road. Never found it useful either, staff seemed to have less clue than me

Good riddance!

PC World in the UK is the worst computer shop I have ever seen and PC City is even worse!

I bought my daughters laptop from there (in the UK)
It became apparant that the salesman actually didnt know what he was talking about. During the purchase when he was on the computer he made a mess of inputting details, and then blamed us for giving him the wrong past addresses for my daughter. It was a true example of how not to deal with a customer. I've bought consumables from there since, but would never ever consider a computer from there

Conversely, I bought a monitor from PC City Valencia and was happy with the service, even knocking money off the price

I searched around for a desktop replacement for weeks and was about to order it from Amazon, UK, when I spotted the same model in Carrefour, and cheaper. I put Windows 7 on it in English and it was still cheaper. It bombs along.

Good or bad I think whats more important is that if Dixons cant make it work in Spain things must be very tough.

Two seperate issues - Dixons are finding it difficult in their home territory. I wonder if their business model isn't quite suitable for today's environment.

http://www.channelweb.co.uk/crn-uk/n...performance-h1

UK and Ireland revenue dropped on per cent to £1.62bn, with underlying losses narrowing more than £5m to £10.7m.

Sales in the retail titan's ecommerce wing fell four per cent annually to £310.1m, with losses reaching £800,000, compared with a £2.7m profit in 2009.
They're doing well in the Nordic countries apparently, so they still have hope. I have to admit, if I'm looking for a tech purchase nowadays, I'd either do it on the web, or (if I need knowledgable advice) got to a department store like John Lewis. By all I hear from others you don't get wise advice from Dixons floor staff.

I think with any of the big stores you need to do your home work then tell them what you want not ask what you need.

Imagine if Dixons/PC World collapsed in the UK 90% of the population would be lost on a Sunday afternoon

I agree 100% with your first point, which is why I don't see a bright future for high street stores. Why buy from the High street if you know what you want and can get it cheaper from the net? Could be why places like HMV and bookstores are going down the pan. Unfortunate, but the price of progress

As for the second point, maybe I chose a strange time, but the last time I went in PC world it was empty. I think Brits on a Sunday will either be down the car boot sale, having a barbecue (if it's sunny), in the pub, or down the garden centre. You may be right in winter though.

I replaced my desktop a couple of months ago, but had been putting off for about 6 months because I really didn't want to pay the excessive prices in Spain, and looked longingly at the countless smallish PC outlets in the UK offering great specs at a great price. Transport to Spain and the guarantee issues stopped me ordering.

I dismissed PC City as soon as I saw the logo - PC World copy! There are independent online shops in Spain but they are really expensive in comparison to the UK, but if you are going to build your own machine the prices are not too different. So that was my plan until my old machine died and I had to replace it quickly.

I ended up buying from PCComponentes and although the PC had an unconnected DVD drive and a few other issues I could sort out easily enough I am happy enough with their service and the machine itself is great.

If money had not been an issue I would have bought from Spanish sites Mountain.es or 4Frags, or similar, because they get good reviews and have knowledge about what they sell - something Dixons, PC World and Currys always fall down on.
