Here's a regularly updated list of commission-free current accounts in Spanish, most are online banks although if they belong to a traditional bank they may let you use their offices for certain things and most probably require residency in Spain.

I have ING and Openbank (Santander).
One thing that put me off N26 was reading reports that they're rather quick at suspending or closing accounts without giving any reason as to why.

I know a young couple who have just applied for a mortgage with Sabadell.They bank with BBVA but thought they would take a long time to decide if they were suitable & was told to try another Bank.Maybe they will get stuck now until this goes through.Bankia was set to merge with CaixaBank in January but I don´t know if that is still going ahead.

Can you pay all your bills with this like water, council tax, electricity etc as there's a note on their web site;

You have to arrange to change your own direct debits. We did this and made sure everything was working OK before cancelling our Sabadell account.
