The DGT is not sending emails or SMS to notify traffic fines.

Hi all - hopefully everyone is switched on for detecting scams - just received an email from OSI - advising about the 'DGT' scam - please don't get caught

'DetailIn recent days, a campaign has been detected, spreading via emails and text messages containing a fraudulent link to a website impersonating the DGT (Directorate-General for Traffic and Traffic Administration). The messages attempt to convince the victim to pay a fine for an infraction, informing them that non-payment will result in additional charges. Furthermore, some messages impose a 30-day deadline for payment.

There are several signs that indicate a scam: the email layout, the greeting, the sender's address not being official, or the sense of urgency conveyed to the victim.'

DGTI always deliver the fine in the post. If you have the DGTI app and are registered to use it you usually get a notification via the app but you have to wait for fine to come in post to pay. A couple of years ago i got informed via the app and rang the DGTI office to be told you must wait for fine to arrive in the post and then pay per instructions with the fine. So anything else is a scam.

Yes, I think you have nailed it, Bob - Only believe a DGT letter with a photo of your car and details of where and when - don't believe anything else.

This happened last year to me. I had sold my car just before receiving the message and it had not left the parking garage prior to that so I knew instantly that it was a scam but I guess that some people will always be caught out by these rogues.

This scam has been around for a long time but unfortunately some people seem to exist in their own little hermetically sealed bubbles so never learn anything.

The only time I have known about a fine is when my insurance company informed me that I got a fine for obstruction, as the car was sticking too far out of a parking space.
Im assuming that as this was a local Police fine it didn't go to the DGT.
