British Expats - Deutsche Bank Mortgage Problem!

Did anyone see this item on the BBC Breakfast programme this morning, about the fact that someone else can set up a direct debit from your bank account if they have just the sort code and the account number?

The banks don't check that the name and address of the person to whom the goods or services are being supplied is actually the account holder - and have said that they have no plans to introduce additional security checks! The only advice given was that everyone should check their bank accounts scrupulously. I do anyway, but it's rather scary that the system is so lax.
