Can anyone recommend anything to spray under the bonnet of a car to deter rats, we have just had all of the wind screen wiper/spray tube and wires eaten as well as the protection inside of the bonnet. Cannot put down poison as we have dogs. Likewise cats are a no no. Caught one little blighter last night with extra strong cheddar in a trap. It was dead this morning the cheese must have been to strong for it. Any advice please?

Ohhhh Myyyy Goddddd ! We are moving to Spain as soon as we are able to. I have been warned of the snakes, scorpions and millipedes. Now I have to psyche myself up to add rats to the list!
I had better watch this space and pay close attention to replies!

Just grab one of the local stray cats and tie it to the bottom of the engine compartment, but dont forget to feed it one a week ! !

Don't be so wicked you naughty boy. We have a cat and he regularly catches rats, although he does tend to bring them in and leave them behind the sofa. Thankfully they are dead, although not always in one piece. Uuurgh.

Leave spare wires around for the rats to eat! Oh and a nice bowl of milk. Failing that leave the radio on, radio 2 as they hate that one.

I've never seen any, but then again I live on an urbanisation, but there is waste land a few meters away. We do have two cats, perhaps that's why, and there are a number of nice plump feral cats around.
