Dental costs?

I have used the same Dentist on a couple of occasions and he has charged me €40 for each filling which I thought was reasonable.
However, he has just quoted me €265 to have a tooth crowned.

Anyone had a tooth crowned recently and if so, is this about the right amount?

Doesn't sound bad, I think I paid about 300 euro.

Re: Dental costs?

It depends on the type of crown and whether it is a back crown or a front crown.

It might also require root filling etc if it is a new crown as opposed to a replacement crown.

Generally dental work is cheaper in Spain if it is labour intensive (such as a root filling) but similar if it requires a dental lab to make the crown.

It's a bit like comparing the cost of spectacles - they vary enormously depending on the actual requirement.

Juat paid 350 for a rear crown, around 150 for root canal. Oh and fillings are 50 euros.

Have just had 3 fillings for 38euro each (with dental insurance discount, should have been 50euro each).
Also had 4 crowns top front, paid 250euro each (again with dental insurance discount), well happy with result, would have cost a lot more in the UK:D

Annual Dental Insurance policy cost 86euro, have already managed to get more than that back in dental treatment discounts!

Who do you have this policy with?. I know I'm gonna need more work next year and I'm sure I would soon get back the 86 euros.

do you know it is common practise to use one drill per surgery per day in Spain.
WITHOUT sterilisation. NO LIE
They are disinfected with a Magic liquid which i have yet to discover.
Is there such a thing as good cheap dentistry ?
I presume they were trained the same as me in London but something has gone disastrasously wrong if this is generar practise.

Treatment was excellent.

I can honestly say that this guy is the best dentist that I have ever visited and I've been to more than a few in my time. We moved full time to Sayalonga last June and it was only a matter of time before some major work was needed on a dodgy rear tooth. Well it broke sooner than expected and I had to find someone in short order. Michael Mannish had been recommended to me buy the chippy who built our new internal doors, so I thought I'd give him a go. Ex Harley street he is extremely fastidious and successfully did a root canal on a tooth that my previous dentist in the UK wouldn't take on as the roots were very thin. Then he rebuilt and crowned it. I was so pleased with the procedure that I had him redo a couple of not particularly well done fillings and will be going back in a couple of months to have a very old crown replaced.

I typed my reply before reading the entire thread and have just seen Mike's post and thought I'd better add this comment. Bugger, just noticed that Mike was the poster of the thread that I'd quoted. Man do I feel stupid :-)
