Seems to me if most if not all software can run Alphabetic sorting very simply, why not make it a requirement that all classifieds have the country as the lead word, then maybe the site could sort them without it being a complicated thing, and equally it's up to the advertiser whether or not their product appears in a place where would-be buyers would find it.

Well its a forum, Not Craigslist. Location in the Title might help so if your looking at something thats to large to post you wont bother if its on the other side of the globe. But considering how much stuff is in there (ie not much) and there are more specialized mediums for selling crap on the internet its fine as it is. Until this thread highlighted something I had never looked in the Classifieds, When I wanted to sell something I stuck/stick it on Fleabay and stick a link to my auction in my sig, Which is allowed last time I did it I made quite a few bob and was shocked with were I sent some of the stuff to.;)

Is it possible to search the classifieds by location?

Looking in the property section I would like to look at property in Spain and not have to trawl through other countries.

I think the search in Classifieds works very well but it's reliant on the advertiser putting the best key words in their details. If you click on search in the Classifieds and then put in the area in the keywords box and then click on the real estate bit in the list at the bottom and execute search, you will just get the real estate available in that area.

It does depend on the info put in the ad though.
