Day trip to Javea
Were looking for a fish and chip shop there.Heard theres a place called fish y chips. If not can anyone recommend a good old chippy and directions to satisfy OH british fish and chips craving.
Also is Iceland easy to find.Want to stock up on some christmas goodies. Weve also heard that there may be a charity shop in Javea. If so where is it and is it open on saturdays. We dont know Javea too well but reckon its the nearest place where we will find these british delights. We have nothing like these in Valencia.I even breakfast on calamares/pulpo and tortilla now so these treats would be a delight for our tastebuds. |
Re: Day trip to Javea
There is a fish and chip shop/restaurant at the Arenal at the side of the big car park. I've tried them once for take away and they were fine. Also you can get very good fish and chips at 'Scallops' ( a very Brit restaurant), also on the Arenal at the far South/East end, where the Spanish even come to try them.
As for Charity shops, there are loads. Try the big one in Avenida de la Fontana, left off Av. del Pla, if coming from The Old Town/ Pueblo. You will see Iceland on your left at a roundabout shortly after the Pueblo. |

Re: Day trip to Javea
Used to visit Scallops for good old north sea cod and chips a few times a year because like you we are not able to have anything "English" anywhere near to us. Not been able to go for over a year now but maybe one day next spring we will.
Enjoy your trip out. You will find plenty of interesting shops in the port area. Rosemary |
Re: Day trip to Javea
I go to the expat warehouse near Benidorm - opp the old casino in Villajosa. Its really cheap & well worth stocking up on uk stuff. Guinness is less than 1e a can, Heinz beans 50c, honey on offer (its part christalised) only 50c.
Iceland is better priced now but expats is cheaper. The charity shop as described above is open 6 mornings a week but isn't brilliant. |

Fish & Chips. My mouth is watering at the thought. Have been to the two mentioned in Javea and both are very good I thought.
Does anybody know of similar in the Oliva/Gandia/Pego area? Used to be one in Oliva but that finished some time ago. |

Re: Day trip to Javea
Had a really great time in Javea and were able to satisfy all of our cravings.
Found three charity shops which had some good nick nacks and english chapter books for our daughter. Went to an english bakers and bought pasties. Also found found Scallops and ate the hugest portions of fish.Dont know how they make money at the price they charge. Finished off with a trip to Iceland which isnt as good as Benissa but we were able to stock up on a few treats. Strange to find so much english stuff. Javea is a nice place and we will visit again. |
Re: Day trip to Javea
We used to go to Scallops and they used to have great tomato soup and gave you a bottle of wine with every paying person which was great for Fridays. Wouldn't bother with Iceland as we found it a rip off. You can buy all the same stuff in the Mercadona under the Hacendado brand for a fraction of the price. Why live in spain and still buy brit stuff??
Javeas is a beaut of a place and I would recommend a visit. Try a day at the Marriot hotel spa near La Sella too. |

I cannot get in Mercadona what Iceland sells. We live constantly on spanish food in our neck of the woods.English treats are good.Just because we live in Spain dosent mean we dont miss some things that we have had all of our lives.I expect that would be the same for spanish people in the UK. |

I complained to OH recently that Llidl never do an English week like they do Indian or Chinese and low and behold they did an English week so I could buy my mint sauce, apple sauce and a couple of other bits that I struggle to find in our part of Spain. On the list they had frozen battered or breaded cod but of course they did not have it in our local (10 Km away) store. Rosemary |

Be wary of drinking the wine, they may have changed to a different one in the last year but if not and it is Alicant wine it is very much like paint stripper. However if you asked for red you could use it for spaghetti bolognes or something similar it works fine.
