dangerous dog info needed

Hi
I am thinking of re-homing a dog, however the breed is on the Spanish list of dangerous dogs. I would like to know if anyone has gone through this process ? What is involved regarding getting the physical and mental capacity test, can this be done at the local doctors ?
Below is the only info I can find, but it doesn't say how to go about it.

The owners of all dogs of the appendix I and II must have a special licence.
For obtain the licence of dangerous dogs you must present to the city council:
a copy of your identity card
a physical capacity certificate
a mental capacity certificate
the identity card of the dogs (with the microchip)
third-party insurance of minimum 120.000 euros

Surely the refuge you are re-homing from will have all the details!

Hi
I have asked at the town hall, but they haven't a clue. Have also asked at the police station, just got a shrug from them as well.
They just said they have never done one before.

I appreciate you are rescuing a dog with good intent but I`m dead against public ownership of dangerous dogs , totally unnecessary , I think you are taking a big risk even doing it fully legally ,many of these types are listed as dangerous because of their unpredictability , not because of size and power, chances are at the least it will kill someone elses pet dog/cat ,worst you will be up on a manslaughter charge, best get it put down in my view and save yourself future heart ache.

Hi

I have dogs as guard dogs - as in dangerous to burglars LOL. But on a more serious note - aren´t all dogs heavier than 25Kgs now condisered "dangerous" and must be muzzled in public

I'm hazy on the specifics - but quite a lot of breeds are on the 'dangerous' list - but of course they aren't necessarily actually dangerous

it IS to do with size & certain characteristics though - istr there's a link in 'Free Beer'

Re: dangerous dog info needed

The Spanish authorities have declared the following breeds or cross-breeds as potentially dangerous dogs when over 3 months of age:

American Staffordshire Terrier
Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Mallorquin Bulldog (Perro de Presa Mallorquín)
Fila Brasileiro (Fila Brasileño)
Perro de Presa Canario / Canary Dog
Bullmastiff,
American Pitbull Terrier
Rottweiler
Bull Terrier
French Mastiff / Bordeaux Bulldog (Dogo de Burdeos)
Japanese Tosa / Tosa Inu
Argentinian Mastiff (Dogo Argentino)
Doberman
Neapolitan Mastiff

Also animals that display all or most of the following characteristics:

Strong musculature, powerful or athletic constitution, robustness, agility, vigour and endurance.
Strong character and marked courage.
Short hair.
Thoracic perimeter between 60 and 80 centimeters (24 and 32 inches), height at the shoulder between 50 and 70 centimeters (20 and 28 inches) and weight over 20 kg (44 lbs).
Voluminous, square, robust head, with a wide and large skull and muscular and pronounced cheeks. Strong and large jaws, robust, wide and deep snout.
Broad, short and muscled neck.
Broad, thick, deep chest, with arched ribs and short and muscled back.
Straight, parallel and robust forelegs and very muscular hindquarters, with relatively long hindlegs at a moderate angle.

And any X breeds.

I found the above on a web search. Just about covers most large dogs !

But still cant find the answer to my first post.

Sorry Rose, you said you were thinking of re-homing a dog so I assumed you were getting one through an animal refuge. They do all the vet care, vaccinations, chips etc for you in return for a donation.

Still worth contacting a local animal charity or a vet as they are bound to know.

PS where I live, you do it through the Policia Local.

OK try googling "Certificados para animales peligrosos" and the place where you live. The certificates are issued by vets, and the license is issued either by the ayuntamiento or the GC or the Local police depending where you are.

Thank you for the information, most helpful.
The only thing is it says "Pass an aptitude test, also known as psycho test" I hope this test is in English !
I will print off some of the info in Spanish and try again at the town hall.

Owner. :D

La autorización exige demostrar que la persona cuenta con las aptitudes psicológicas adecuadas para educar a un can de estas características. Aunque, en la mayoría de las comunidades, la prueba suele reducirse a la realización de un cuestionario.

I disagree!! When I moved to Spain I owned a Japanese Akita which is on the Spanish dangerous dogs list. He was the softest dog I had ever owned and took orders from our Westie. When I lived in the UK I worked for social services fostering people with mental health problems, all of which loved the dog. He was also a friend dog and visited the local hospitals etc. I think a lot depends on the way the dog is bought up!!
