Cycling / Walking maps

Hi all. My wife and I are staying on a campsite just outside Aguilas for the next month or so.As I am very keen on walking and cycling, I would like to obtain a local O/S type map which I know from experience in the Costa Blanca can be awkward.I think I need a copy of Map 997, Aguilas, 1:50,000 and would appreciate any advise as to where I can buy one.I already have a copy of Turistca's "The Coasts of Aguilas and Lorca" but would prefer to have a paper map..Any help much appreciated.Feliz Navidad folks! :-)

Best of luck - I've never found any o/s style walking maps in Spain!

We have a similar one for here, El Hierro, 1:30 000 by Freytag & Bernt, lists all the features roads types of paths in German and English. I found it in the airport shop on arrival.

However we are the Canary Islands, Spain is a different kettle of fish.

I could not find one to purchase on line in Spain. But in the UK you may have the possibility of purchasing one
Águilas | Stanfords - out of stock
Strange world we live in?
We have purchased those which cover our part of Galicia. Finding them was a bit of a hit and miss affair going into many book shops.

Green Tourism seems to have escaped the attention of the Spanish Govt.I used to live in a tiny village in France and a comprehensive map book of all the local cycling and hiking trails was for sale in the local bar,and that was 20 years ago.

I am not home at the moment but we have bought detailed maps from the government shop - can't remember the name . Ours is in centre of Granada.

They are pretty good but lack markings of hiking ,cycling routes. However a bit ofgooglingand you can overlay the info.

Check www.cnig.es which covers all of Spain and you can order online. The 1:50000 and 1:25000 are not the same quality as UK OS maps but the best you will get here.

It's probably too late for you now, but if you're ever in London at all, visit Stanfords the map specialist shop in Long Acre, Covent Garden, to get an idea of what's available.

I know it's maps you're looking for but wanted to mention a web resource in case you haven't seen it. Here's an example route: Wikiloc - Caño de Espuña-Fuente Bermeja-Casa Leyva-Senda de las Águilas trail - Carmona, Murcia (España)- GPS track

Wikiloc is popular in Spain. At the least, it can help with identifying routes which you can then use your maps for, and there's always the option of printing map and route details from the site.

On internet go to www.tiendaverde.es It is a book shop, I believe in Madrid, that sells O/S type maps as well as books etc. I have bought maps from them rather than going to the shop in Granada where I have also bought maps. Both good but buying on line can sometimes be easier. Go to the web site, on the left hand side it has a section which says "Para buscar una poblacion en escala de 1:50.000, introduce aqui su nombre: busqueda de poblaciones" Type in the word Aguilas and click on the OK button. Up will come a list of choices. Go down the list (can't remember how far down but it is around 15-20 down) to Mapas topograficos CGE (Ejercito) 1:50.000 (Del 551 al 1107). Click on that and it will show the list of the maps numbered from 551 to 1107. The list is in numerical order. Go down the list to 997 Aguilas, click on that and it will show you the cost and you are then able to buy. Hope this helps.
