Coviran Supermarket in CE ?
I just heard rumors about a new supermarket named COVIRAn coming to CE ? If it is true , it would be great news. Does anybody know more ? Which location is planned. I add my source in the link below;

Source : Info Ayamonte:
As they say fortune favours the brave. As you will have seen from Marina's interview on Ayamonteinteresa Coviran have just completed the purchase this afternoon. That makes two new businesses to look forward to in 2021 on Esuri. I would like to wish Alvaro and Raquel the best of luck in this new family venture with the Coviran grocery shop. And also wish Enda Behan the best for his new venture Behan's Gastrobar opening in Spring 2021. Esuri has been long overdue more services and facilities and in these difficult times these business people are literally putting their money where there mouth is and investing in Costa Esuri. |
Re: Coviran Supermarket in CE ?
Yes Maverik, I saw that too - BRILLIANT news for us all and we need it in these worrying times ! Really cheered me up and I have the greatest respect for anybody setting up a new business as it is a brave step. VERY best of luck to all.
Can anybody tell me where these will be located. In the same building as the little shop/cafe maybe? |
Re: Coviran Supermarket in CE ?
Not Rumours, Fact. Both Coviran and Behan's Gastro bar have completed. And both are in the commerical units near Las Lomas. The Shop is the second unit on the left and the Gastro Bar first unit on the right on the first floor. I am Michael Halligan from Infoayamonte page and I don't publish rumour, only facts.

Great news in 2021!! We need some cheering up and as soon as traveling becomes less problematic we can't wait to come back and see friends and try out the new businesses, I'm sure that we will become regular customers. Great that the 2 businesses kept going throughout this awful year. Let's hope lockdowns are over asap, and certainly before they open. Jon |

Roll on normality. I checked the windy webcams website last night about 8.00 pm, and the entire algarve and across the Malaga was 16 c. It was 3c here in hampshire. I think we took the "good times" for granted popping out to our holiday homes, and enjoying all the hospitality. I miss my resto cooked sea bream in PT and the general easy life we retirees enjoy there. I hope the new CE resto can hold out until we are allowed back by our governments. Happy holidays !!

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/british...45600a7fd.jpeg The 18th green We are EU residents, and the mess over vaccinations means we can't rely 100% on getting our jabs this year.! What a 'double whammy' to get this virus, after so much lockdown, when there is 'light at the end of the tunnel' re vaccine(s) ... getting brighter. We hardly go out, have to wear a mask on leaving home, regular hand gel/washing etc. Yet last week I got a streaming cold! These viruses eg also flu and CV19 spread the same way so somehow it breached 'my defences'. I never thought I'd say ' I hope I'm sick with a cold' !! I wasn't too worried as it followed the same path as all previous colds and essentially over in a day. Like Monty Python, I know we should be looking at the 'bright side of life' (da da ....) So I try and say that we are not in a high risk group and we have a wonderful corner of the world to visit - just as soon as we can! The bright side aided by vaccine creation. Jon |

Also Belgium have really ramped up the vax programme, but vax-hesitancy is still a big factor. Ironically, it means that we have jumped the queue, and both will have had vax2's in 3 weeks time. As I mentioned previously, we were fearing a late Vaccination (or even none this year). So we are delighted, Belgium are trialling the Covid passport... And as soon as free movement resumes, with no quarantine in ES or PT or on our return... We are going! Any update on Behans bar please? Last time there were doubts that they would open for the high season.... I hope we can try it on our trip. Jon |

Jon Behan's looking unlikely, as he can't get past the obstacles created by the illegal bar below, so nothing happening at all. |

Coviran due to open tomorrow, hopefully will be fully supported by all.

I heard that there were other problems, at Behans, but was hoping that they were coming close to a resolution. I'm sure that with the possibility of open borders and reductions of quarantine travel restrictions (for both EU and UK-EU travel) - Behans would want and need the high season business.... As MANY of the residents would too. I cant wait for it! There is room for all three at the commercial centre. I will use them all. Jon |

Re: Coviran Supermarket in CE ?
TBH Jon, even though we no longer have a home there, we look at this site (& others) everyday to keep ourselves up to date with new developments. We also will be coming back for visits, from time to time, as it is somewhere we still love & have lots of lovely memories & friends from our time living on Marina Esuri ❤

Re: Coviran Supermarket in CE ?
TO Dellaph Kite. You mentioned Behan's unable to proceed due to problems with the illegal bar below. I guess you mean the bread shop/ minimarket run by the former Holeo 19 couple - forget their name, its been so long. For my curiosity can you enlarge on why an illegal bar below would have any effect on a legal registered bistro upstairs as was planned for Behan's ????? I fail to see what difference it would make ! Thanks... Keith

The next problem arises with disabled access. The ramp provided by the original builder is now cut off by the totally enclosed solid roofed pergola in front of the shop. I think it may also present a problem for regular deliveries to Corvirans. Already the steps which were reinstated by the intercommunity a year or so ago are now smashed again and in my view dangerous. Today the first tree planted as part of the works last year has been hit and damaged. On the whole the frontage looks a mess. Also immediately at the top of the disabled ramp is the unit for the community pharmacy and the whole frontage is taken up with chairs and tables now the sun is here. This will present a problem for mother’s with prams, the disabled in wheelchairs and those who use crutches to access the chemist! As we have so often said with Esuri one step forwards and three steps back! |

You will all recall the very ugly large diameter corrugated chimney that was erected at jags bar to comply with food health regulations in the kitchen. That was removed and re-erected at the shop above the ovens it goes straight up through the ceiling of the shop which is of course the floor of Behan’s which means that a rather nice restaurant would have an ugly silver grease stained chimney in the middle.

As we have so often said with Esuri one step forwards and three steps back! A legal venue, held back by an (openly... literally) illegal operation, using public terrace space, and even smashing up the premises above to make a hole for a chimney!! Even potentially hampering the operation of a second legal operation, a much-needed supermarket. We are regular users of the shop which has been at times a 'welcome social-lifeline' over the years (decades even!). We believe there is room for both. Its 2 different business models. After all the original concept of CE, that we bought into (literally ...€€) included a plethora of social/business venues, including a full size supermarket, pharmacy, EVEN burger king, bowling alley etc! There has to be 'another reason, behind the scenes' ... Both Covirans and Behans have (it seems) a cast-iron case.... Especially as we have a clear history of denuncias happening 'succesfully' (for the complainant)!!! After all wouldn't you take this step if you had invested huge time and expense in a new business? Weird! The last thing we want is this to drag on and a strong 'anti-shop' feeling to arise, meaning social opportunities get worse!!!! I know that there has already been this trend developing. Its hard to fathom! Jon |

Re: Coviran Supermarket in CE ?
Thanks to Esuri John and Dellaph Kite for the explanation. IT COULD ONLY HAPPEN ON CE !!. Were I the owner / leesee of Behan's premises I would be putting a disc cutter through the steel chimney and sealing the floor with an inset steel plate. That Bl**dy couple at the shop would have no recourse because it was illegal and and they have no rights. That said : they obviously have some persuasion somewhere since having not made a success of Hoyo19 they sucessfully denounced the "membership club" that was to open. Surely, if the ramp to access Coviran is on the shop end of the parade, then the shop cannot block it, otherwise wheelchair and disabled buggy users are prevented from accessing the supermarket. For what its worth I reckon if a group of disabled got together outside and called the police the shop would be forced to give way. The police would have no other choice. Sounds like brown envelopes again.

The supermarket is looking good. Unfortunately my (bad) level of Spanish only picked up the occasional word but the visual itself did the job.
