I can't see this, to be honest. Tourists will simply fly between the countries, and goods are shipped either by boat or flown. It's not like the Channel tunnel, as the distances between major population centres are too great.

I can't remember where the tectonic plate boundaries go, off the top of my head. Hoever, surely such a tunnel would cross one?

Tunnels are ok within a plate, but crossing a plate boundary?

Looks like that could be OK

This would take decades to build. I think it's highly possible that affordable air travel will be a thing of the past well before that.

Best let sleeping dogs lie.

If the US imports any more Chinese goods than it is now, it will probably sink under the waves in both senses.

In any event it's quite possible to walk betwen the US and Russia now, in mid-winter when the Straits are frozen.

I'm feeling sorry for the train buffs, who will feel obliged to take the Moscow-New York express; and sit on a train for two weeks. They no not what they do.

Thanks for that. Yeah, if they stick to the Bering straits, it could work. For some reason I thought there was a plate boundary that crossed the straits.

I would think because like me, you were thinking the ring of fire follows the major landmass, rather than following the Aleutian Islands, as it appears in that graphic.

I imagine that things laid on top aren't a problem. Stuff embedded in the rocks tho must surely be cut as tho between the blades of scissors.
