a Coruna

Hi

I'm from the Uk but been living abroad for a few years. Love the sunshine and being near the water, coastal town. Looking at A Coruna as there are some jobs here. Can anyone tell me what the weather is like, are there beaches nearby and are there british people? (I'm early 30's so looking to meet new people). Do you need to speak Spanish all the time (I only speak basic but very happy to learn). What's it like living there?

It's wet. Very. There are beaches, it's coastal and lovely. Few British people. You'll need Spanish every day. I don't live there so I don't know what it's like full-time, but if you can stand the weather and are willing to learn the language, it could be a nice place to live.

Here's a clue about the weather. Compare these windows with those found in the narrow streets in the south.

I believe the windows are because this coastal region has very high winds ?

You do get a good bit of rain but also a good amount of sunshine (around 2000 hours yearly). Plenty of wind, especially during winter. You won't find many British people, because they all go further South.

You will need to speak Gallego.

I was told it's to do with making the most of the available light. Not 100% sure.

Michael Portillo said that this was a feature of the region where terraces are glazed so that people can enjoy the winter sunshine but not be exposed to the Atlantic gales. You can purchase the series as DVDs or may get them on iPlayer?

Here is a short clip about A Caruna in Galicia from one episode >
