Corpus Christi

Thought I would put on a couple of photo's of our street being prepared for the procession of recently confirmed children. Firstly the street was brushed and washed, then the middle was dressed with leaves and finally flower heads and petals were sprinkled over the leaves. After the procession we all brushed the leaves and flowers up and then the cars were allowed back.

Looking in the diary it would appear that there is something on nearly every week until mid September. Not all of it is religious as they ensure that the teenagers have their rock bands too. Not bad for a small town!!!!

In our village, many of the villagers made little altars outside their houses, surrounded them with flowers and put a crucifix or a picture of the Virgin in the middle and the during the procession the priest stopped at each of these altars to pray and bless the family.

I love Corpus Cristi - so colourful.

Ours did too, sorry forgot to mention that aspect. They changed priests at each altar too.

Can you shed any light on the fact that some people hung lacey covers out of their windows too.

I don't know why they do this; but did notice that the majority of them were red and/or white, symbolising (presumably) the blood and body of Christ.

Yes, they were red or white here and some were white with a red pattern on them. It is so obvious to me now that you have said that, I was tending to concentrate on what they were instead of the colours.

Thanks
