A Corpse on our Hands
http://elpais.com/elpais/2013/09/05/...30_166109.html
Can anybody help out and get rid of a dead body ? "We have a corpse on our hands," admitted San Fernando José Loaiza, of the Popular Party (PP), in reference to the building. And the worst part is, there is no way to unload it on anybody else." I suppose it makes a change from White Elephants. |
Re: A Corpse on our Hands
What's another €10 mil in an ocean of waste?
EDIT: That you and I and millions of others pay for... |
Re: A Corpse on our Hands
Aquarium completely free of fish, airports completely free of aircraft, tram tracks free of trams, exhibition halls free of people, motorways almost free of cars, huge housing complexes almost free of people (think Seseña), so what next? But think positive, 31 less out of work! :D

cough NHS IT project, £11 billion down the plughole cough What do the following have in common: the poll tax, the Exchange Rate Mechanism, Individual Learning Accounts, the Assets Recovery Agency, the Child Support Agency, the NHS patient data system, ID cards, HS2 and Universal Credit? They were all policies to which ministers stubbornly stuck despite warnings that they would fail – until they did, whereupon they were either abandoned or salvaged only at vast cost to the taxpayer. You might have noticed that I sneakily added HS2 and Universal Credit to this list of fiascos, when neither has happened yet. But they show worrying signs of following the now-familiar pattern of their predecessors. The claim by the IEA think tank that the proposed high-speed rail link from London to Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds will cost more than £80 billion – double the current estimate – should be setting alarm bells ringing around Whitehall. Instead, they are circling the wagons against hostile fire, insisting that the costs will not overrun (they will) and that the project will be built on time (it won’t). And yes, I'm quoting the UK So long as Aggie, who has stated he has no plans on living in Spain, continues to push his venom here, I will respond (actually I won't, I'm tired of teamUK's trolling and smears here. I'm out). |
Re: A Corpse on our Hands
and I thought you were referring to the decision to do live broadcasts of bullfights on Spanish TV again..

Re: A Corpse on our Hands
OK, I'll try to pretend none of this ever happens in Spain.
(kind of difficult, though, unless I just go into full denial). |
Re: A Corpse on our Hands
This made me smile. he has lost the plot, he tries to make it sound as if it is open:lol:
But some people still believe in the project. Antonio Moreno was the mayor of San Fernando in 2004, and he laid the first stone. "It's a good idea," he argues. "There is nothing like it anywhere nearby. It brings together the history of naval construction, an aquarium specializing in local species... In my opinion, it was worth it." Scrolled down the page. Work also stopped on the Roman amphitheatre, and also the Tram in jaén. |

(kind of difficult, though, unless I just go into full denial). Imagine a forum for say Aussies moving to the UK. Would they (for example) point out all the time, the waste they see. This week alone they could link to article on waste on the new universal credit scheme, or the skyscraper in London that melts nearby cars...Or perhaps the regular catalogue of youngsters killed by gangs.. or perhaps the fact that the Shard is only 20% occupied...??? Of course they wouldn't..not for nothing are we termed whingeing Poms But hey, maybe I'm in a big minority here. This board deserves teamUK sneering from their paradise. "ironic mode" It really is not worth bothering with. |
Re: A Corpse on our Hands
If I were thinking of moving I would be interested in reading the bad as well as the good. We found it useful for Florida on a Florida forum. There are plenty of Spanish property sales type forums which only have the good news, they are heavily censored!

Welcome to B.E. where you get to know all the real facts behind the stories which the M.O.P. would much prefer to sweep under the carpet.   |

It's the Audit commission that is saying it's not working, and it was supposed to be rolled out to the rest of the UK in October, but that has been put back... with no new date announced, so yes, it does appear to have been a costly failure.
There was a girl on the TV saying that due to blips or whatever, she had not been paid any money for 6 weeks and was having to borrow off friends and family. It made the national news, whereas in Spain those who find themselves without means , have to resort to friends, family and charities as a matter of course. And it takes longer than 6 weeks for any dole payments to reach the needy, if they are entitled to paro in thefirst place. And nobody bats an eyelid, never mind it being news worthy. Viva la differance. |
Re: A Corpse on our Hands
Also from the same link,
"Anything to prevent the Parque de la Historia y el Mar from turning into another Puerto América - another leading example of a major investment gone to the dogs, this time in Cádiz proper: the 7,000-square-meter building, created for the World Sailing Championships of 1992, was only used for 15 days." Looks like they've had more than one Corpse on their hands in the Cadiz region. I wonder how they got rid of the first body ? Pardon me for interrupting by the way. It seems to have totally slipped my mind that the topic title was "Universal Credit". Of course we should be discussing Spanish affairs up on Siesta time so as not to inconvenience you guys to much. |

Of course your last sentence is French based but grammatically not correct and the two cultures are so different. France gets rid of crooks in politically terms you I allege in Spain put up with it? Can someone please explain why a civilized society entertain alleged corruption. In France it would be the Bastille once again.
There's a couple of ongoing cases at present, very serious money, one involving the Royal family and another which leads a very powerful paper trail involving really big bucks, right up to the President. What happens ? Well nothing much really. The Pres just shrugs it off as he would a midge, whilst Spanish families I spend time with often watching the news simply shrug their shoulders and smile like it's just another normal every day occurrence. The fact that 70% of all public officials who are convicted of criminal offences are voted back into office by the general public I think tells it's own story of the complacency and ready acceptance of corruption as a normal way of life in Spain. |

Re: A Corpse on our Hands
Never heard anyone whinging more than the Aussie cricketers going back more years than I can remember, though I do vaguely recall one sporting captain they had way back, called Richie Benaud.
Since then it's been whinge, whinge, whinge all the way, even on the few occasions they won. I genuinely hoped for better when the present shower arrived with their new Captain. How wrong could I have been ? Clarkie has taken whinging to a whole new level setting the lowest standards of all time for any Aussies that may follow. |
