Default converting marriage certificate to spanish

Hi!

Me and my Spanish husband married in the UK and so therefore hold a english marriage certificate. After living in spain for 4 years, we´ve been told many times our certificate is not valid here and we need to get it translated into spanish! the bureaucracy here didnt have a clue and has been messing us about for almost 2 years now finally telling that us we need to get it sorted at the embassy in madrid...is anyone familiar with this process? will the embassy be able to sort this within the day?

Despite Europe being (supposedly) united, getting certificates translated is one big con in my opinion, but there's no way round it really.
Getting them translated means doing it via an "approved" agency, not just any agency.
The Embassy might be able to give you a list of which translation agencies are approved. If they can't (or won't) then perhaps Hacienda might know, though don't hold your breath.

I believe it cost our daughter-in-law around €300 to have her marriage certificate translated. It was done by a firm in Bilbao who are "approved". I cannot remember their name, but if I go to Bilbao this next week, I could find out for you. They might then be able to do it all electronically.
Sorry I can't be more help.

We had our uk marriage certificate translated in Spanish and printed off through our local solicitors. The cost was minimal.

Look for an authorised translator as this is what will be accepted, often referred to as a sworn translation, done by specially qualified translators, ( Traductor Jurado ) , you can find them on the web, not very expensive, we paid Euro 50,- for ours to be done and that included courier service of document.
This link shows an example - no idea of of their quality fo service just to give you an idea of what you are looking for :Certified translation
Doubt the British Embassy will help you much, need the Consular services

Will it not need a Hague Apostile too? our translated documents did. Easy, the foreign and commonwealth office being the place.
We found a translator who was also a Notary, accepted instantly and he charged on a word count basis. I'll look up his e if you want and PM. Let me know.

if the translation is done in Spain by an official translator it should not need one, that applies when a translation is done in another country but intended to be presented in Spain.

If you are in Bilbao we found the British Consulate very helpful, not sure if it will be the same person now , but they were very useful in terms of pointing us in the right direction on some documentation.
