comprendo or entiendo
 

Hi,
be confused.com :-(

What's more common to use "yo no comprendo" or "yo no entiendo"??

Sorry another question, can't find the answer on internet. Is there a Spanish word for "would like" or do they always say "quiero" (want). Quiero sounds so demanding.

Or quisiera for 'I would like'.
'comprendo' is 'I understand, intellectually'.
'entiendo' is 'I get it, I grasp it'.

It depends on the context with using Quiero. It can mean "I want " and also "I would like ".

A lot of Spanish words sound demanding.

Great thanks a lot. Have not heard of this words quisiera or gustaría before maybe I should look for another app to learn Spanish. Thank you

I too use quisiera in order to sound more polite and less demanding, I have never had any issues in using it. However a couple of Spanish teachers have told me it is very formal and generally used. It's nice to try and be polite though.

They are the conditional tense of the verbs querer and gustar (the conditional is used for making polite requests). I found this reference book invaluable when learning Spanish, and still refer to it now to check things, although lessons with a qualified teacher to explain the finer points to you and correct mistakes are the best way to learn, imo (supplemented by conversation practice, of course).

One to one lessons with a competent teacher. that is the way to go !

"would like" in English is the conditional form of the verb "like" and used to make a polite request. English speakers habitually use modal forms like this to express politness. In other languages that can sometimes be expressed by using a different verb.

Wow your knowledge is very good thanks a lot for the links too. I wanted to start a Spanish course last year but then came Covid so have to wait but I do as much as I can and hope you don't mind when I have sometimes a question. I try to find the solutions/explanations on the internet but sometimes I just can't find it. Thank you once again.

Im 66 days into duolingo Spanish. I really do enjoy it. Thanks to bobd22 for other recommendation.

The apps are okay for a while but the only way to learn sufficiently is to have a teacher to get the basics in place. Once you have A1 level you can join the escuela oficial de idiomas this provides a cheap good quality course. On top of that you have to be integrating daily with the culture. You will not get far on own but getting out of an English speaking bubble will help

Hi,

Have now started listening to "languagetransfer" and I really like it is a good mix having it with Duolingo, but I need to listen to each session twice otherwise I forget it :-( I think it is just what I needed. Yes can recommend it thank you for the link.

It would be the best to have a 1:1 teacher or at least a course, but there aren't any at present. My plan is to take 1:1 lesson when I've moved and use the apps for the meantime to get a good base for now.

Entiendo, Comprendo - pretty much interchangeable but for me, entiendo is with the head and comprendo with the heart ;)

For the beginners > Just found a website lingua.com and there are some lessons for free. You can listen to short stories and they ask questions at the end to make sure you've understood the story there is also reading, listening, vocabulary and dictation
