As the issue of many properties in the Competa area being illegal builds has been broached on another thread I thought I would post this thread specifically to enquire about the extent of the problem.

Any info/ advice/ views welcome.

Yes, there are tens of thousands of illegal properties in the south of Spain, some, inevitably, in Competa.

What exactly do you want to know?

The reason I ask is I was considering that particular area and then a day or two ago on another thread ( http://britishexpats.com/forum/spain...-788404/page5/) the matter was raised- specifically Competa

If you are buying, and I would suggest not doing that yet, but renting, you would need the help of a competent Abogado, one who comes recommended by other people and not the estate agent. I would suggest renting for a year before committing, then you can be certain that area is for you. and the illegal [roperty problem is not an issue.
