Default Coming clean re car in spain

Fed up with listening about cars really but our situation is

by the time we leave we would have been owners since 12 june this year

We are aware of import issues etc.

Guy would have to delay his padron entry but we would go ahead to get a school.

He is finishing his work in the UK and joins on the padron when that time has lapsed which would be october then reregister the car within 3 months which would coincide with everybody elses tax.

Good idea

You have to apply for registration within 90 days so you do it straight away and go on the padron to get the school sorted.

You will have owned the car 6 months on 12 December so Guy should not register until then. To keep absolutely within the law, after Guy has been here for 89 days, he pops over to Gib or Portugal and the clock starts ticking again. All he needs to do to be able to prove he left Spain is use his credit card outside Spain although I cannot imagine anyone is going to ask for proof.

On or after 12th December he registers on the foreigners register and signs on the padron and then he can apply for the baja from the consulate and get the car registered free of tax.

It's a pleasant change to see someone worrying about re-registering their car before they even get here.

they might come a bit unstuck if they're both not on the padron with regards to the school registration

I have heard of cases where they demanded to know where the father was was & wanted written confirmation that he was happy to have his child living in a different country - translated & in triplicate, of course

however I also have heard of others where the father actually didn't know or care & neither did the education authority
