closing accounts

I received a letter from Deutschebank saying that they are going to close the account we have which pays for our utilities, standing charges etc. There is no reason for this on the letter. Has anyone else had this experience

A load of banks sent out similar letters a couple of years ago if you did not correctly register with them following new legislation. You should have provided a photo ID to a local branch which would then be scanned onto their central system. Subsequently have to keep such documentation up to date . Try and check if this is the cause.

Re: closing accounts

I got caught unknowingly with the new legislation. My bank account was frozen as far as using the debit card or cash machine. Luckily when I found out I was visiting Spain 2 days later and filled in the relevant new paperwork, the account was then unblocked. They did inform me that even while my account was blocked all direct debits would continue to be paid.
