Does anyone know what to select from this dropdown. I don't work and don't have a family member in the EU. Thanks

1. wrong menu. it is under policia. not exstranjeria.
2. depends on whether yours is 1st application or exchange.
for very first step (not an exchange) - it depends on the area; in some areas there is an option "Trámite para la documentación de nacionales de Reino Unido (Brexit)" but in some (Barcelona for example) there is no such option - you need to email and make appointment.

then:
for exchange of existing residency, or for second step of initial application it is "Exp tarjeta asociada al Acuerdo de retirada ciudadanos británicos y sus familiares"

Oh that it were true!

For instance nowhere in the entire document does it as much as mention either NIE or Padron.

what does NIE have to do with anything?
for first time applicants it is assigned automatically during the process. exchangers presumably have NIEs already.

padron is mentioned on SEDE when you make ex23 appointment...

question was which option to choose for appointment.

Not wishing to derail the thread.

But I have an NIE and so do thousands of others, including my son who has no intention of ever living here.
I am a first time applicant, but needed the NIE to purchase the flat a couple of years ago, buy a car etc.

So you are in error.

Also it has been reported far and wide that current long term residents do not have to change to the TIE and in fact by doing so are using up slots and preventing first time applicants from getting their residency sorted before the end of December.

The padron issue has been raising its head for ages. Alicante REQUIRE the padron for all applications, when we asked at our town hall the lady just said "ah residencia, Alicante OK"

In the 'official' government blurb, padron is not mentioned.

Barriej,Yes it is selfish of people to take up an appointment that is needed for a 1st.time applicant.I just need a change of address but applied fairly early on as it was taking a while to get an appointment at that time.Eventually I got one for earlier this month but gave it up for the very reason you give.Don´t we all want to see new arrivals seeking the sort of opportunity we had in a new country.And I believe appointments are hard to get now before the December31st. deadline for 1st applicants.

Yes, but the majority of first time applicants are not new arrivals, but people who have lived in Spain illegally for many years. If they miss the boat, few people will care.

I agree with you about the spongers.As someone who has operated a legal business here & paid into the system correctly,I have always been furious about the thousands of Brits.who live"under the radar" & openly boast about it.This is possibly because our home country doesn´t have a proper ID system to trace them.However,I am grateful that my family had the opportunity to seek a new life abroad.We had a successful business on the south coast of England previously but were sick of paying out to scroungers who found it easier to collect welfare rather than try for a job.There will be many who ARE genuine new arrivals & I,for one,want to give them a chance.The "all ready here "spongers may very soon find that the Spanish authorities will ask them about their contributions to Spanish life which perhaps will send them packing back to Blighty.But at least the UK will then benefit as it seems there is a shortage of workers for things like picking fruit & veg.

Totally agree as you say there are genuine people trying to do the right thing and be fully legal in time to benefit from the withdrawal agreement. Those that have as you say hid under the radar for years I have no sympathy with. Interesting your comment re contributing to spanish life. The other day when drawing money from the bank machine it came up with a comment saying I had documentation that needed attention to continue using my account as usual, it did let me withdraw my cash. Worried knowing how easy spanish banks can and do block accounts the next morning I went to my branch to enquire what this meant. At first the lady could find nothing after a while studying the computer she said, you have a pension? Yes I said, she then said I needed to show the bank a copy of my spanish tax submission as that was needed re the pension. So they are clearly tying things up and confirming, she did say the B word. Not an issue for me but being under the radar may be coming to an end for some or certainly not as easy as it has been.

About time too. Holders of residents accounts should be asked to prove that they are tax resident. A few years ago I wanted a small amount of finance for a car purchase. Tax declarations required!

True plus facing you as you sit in the chair for your EX-23 residencia to TIE exchange appointment in Alicante is a notice which unequivocally states that a padron is only required if you have changed address!

Mine hadn't but due to being unable to get an updated one in time I presented the most recent copy I had which was from 2018, it was accepted without comment!
