Christmas Bonus?????
 

DMU brought this up in the France Forum. Does anyone know whether there has been a Christmas bonus paid to UK citizens who live abroad? DMU stated that she had a payment of 11.53 euros and when I looked I had received the same amount so it is definitely not a pension adjustment.

Yes, it is the 10 pound Christmas Bonus which has been paid to all UK state pensioners since 1972 and, unlike pensions, never increased in line with inflation. Both my husband and I received ours on Friday.

Although I have seen this additional payment I have always thought that it was a simple adjustment on the pension payments. Never realised that it was anything to do with Christmas.

Yes I got mine paid into the bank on Friday. As mentioned it's been going since 1972 but never increased. I read somewhere that had it increased in line with pensions it would be around £160 now !

Also the UK Christmas bonus is taxable in Spain (not in UK), so you are supposed to declare in your 2023 renta next year.

Just checked - nothing received. Maybe as a 'newer' pensioner I don't qualify.

Eligibility

To get a Christmas Bonus you must be present or ‘ordinarily resident’ in the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man or Gibraltar during the qualifying week.

I shouldn't take everything you read on a gov.uk website at face value ...

My €11.53 bonus came into my Belgian bank account on Friday. I haven't set foot in the UK for more than six years.

I have always declared it as I thought that it was an adjustment to the amounts of pension paid so will continue to do so.

We both got our €11.53's (£10) Christmas bonus on Friday too !!

I agree I have received the Christmas bonus since I started drawing my state pension I was spanish resident when I started drawing it. I looked recently on the yougov site and saw that link that Spainrico posted and thought that's odd. In another part of the site it gives same list but includes resident in EU member state.
